This gorgeous accommodation is in a wonderful location with the sea right on its doorstep and views of Start Way Lake to the rear from the bedroom windows. This cottage would be perfect for a family or group of friends seeking an idyllic holiday by the sea.
Once a coastguard's cottage, this beautiful home has been refurbished with a great deal of love. The bright green exterior of the building gives you a little taste of what's to come. When you step inside you'll find a long open plan kitchen, dining and living area with exposed beams, pale walls and lots of vibrant warm colours everywhere. The space features mustard armchairs, petrol cabinets, a teal fireplace and a red wood bucket making it a joyful inviting space. The old fireplace has been converted to house a wood burner and it's easy to imagine cosy nights watching the flames with a glass of wine as a storm rages outside. There's a big three seater sofa and a flat screen TV nestled in the corner next to the fireplace and it's all very comfortably set up for a movie night or lazing about with a good book. Seaside inspired art adorns the walls and there are some lovely ornaments dotted around but nothing feels cluttered or cramped.
The kitchen is sleek and modern and there's a nice oval dining table where you can enjoy that first coffee as you make plans for the day ahead. Alternatively head straight out into the fresh sea breeze and amble down to The Billy Can for a flat white and some pastries.
The bedrooms are lovely. Two have large double beds with crisp linen and soft dreamy pillows. The walls are white off-setting the exposed beams all around. One of the rooms offers a view of the sparkling lake behind and both have flat screen TVs for those who like to lounge in bed and channel hop. The third bedroom is equally lovely with a single bed and a trundle bed for a sixth guest. This room is perfect for kids. There are two light and airy bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a tub and shower overhead.
There's plenty to explore in this lovely part of the country including the chic waterside towns of Salcombe and Dartmouth. Totnes with its lively bar scene is also nearby. Whether its wild moors or perfect beaches, Devon has long been an inspiration for poets and writers including Ted Hughes, Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie, so if there's a book inside you screaming to get out bring your mac or notebook and settle down in this stunning landscape and get creating.
If you want to keep things local you might like to check out the Stokeley Farm Shop, a wonderful place to pick up products made by local artisans. Take a stroll along the beach and pick up some delicious fish and chips to enjoy on the sand as the sun sets. Maybe end the night with a pint at the Start Bay Inn only a three minute stumble from your front door.
