East Lodge provides a perfect haven for couples seeking a weekend escape in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With a host of activities available on the estate itself and in the surrounding area, it would be a wonderful treat for food lovers and those who enjoy a gorgeous historic town.
The cottage is both cosy and extremely stylish with an impressive attention to detail. The living room is a peaceful haven designed to provide a space in which to unwind after a day of activities and sight-seeing. A comfy sofa faces a large wood burner where you can settle in with a glass of wine on chilly evenings and enjoy a movie together on the wall mounted Smart TV. The décor is elegant, simple and very welcoming.
From here an open doorway leads to the modern, fully equipped kitchen which boasts a butler’s sink, fresh grind coffee machine and everything you could need to whip up a romantic meal. A small dining table for two is tucked to one corner in the living room creating an intimate and warm mood.
The bedroom has a real Bridgerton feel to it, showing a more whimsical and romantic side to the design. Decorated in sage greens and rose blush pinks, with a super comfortable king size bed handmade in England, fitted with fine linen sheets and promising deep and peaceful night’s rest.
In the morning, you can make use of recently refurbished and stylish tiled ensuite with its rainfall shower before heading through for breakfast.
Grab a coffee and head out to your sunny and secluded courtyard to enjoy the garden and make plans for the day. The hot tub will be staring at you tantalisingly, but it might be fun to save it as a treat for later!
The lovely 500 acre Langham Hall Estate is perfect for a stroll over fields and woodland. The estate specialises in equestrian activities, and if you have a horse you're welcome to bring it along! For the experienced rider there is a 1.25km long gallop, and for those who fancy a more meandering trot around, there is private off-road hacking across the estate. The estate also offers simulated shoot days for groups of 8 to 10, which are lavish and fun with all food and drink included in the total price.
Outside of the estate you’ll be spoiled for choice. Within easy reach of the River Stour there’s much to enjoy close by. Book a little pampering session at the Talbooth Spa just down the lane. The historic town of Dedham has a pretty high street with Georgian-fronted houses and a thriving arts and crafts culture. Famously the home of artist John Constable, you’ll be able to stroll around and enjoy related sights such as Willy Lott’s House, Flatford Mill and the site of The Hay Wain painting. Enjoy the art, the museums and the 15th century church before sequestering yourself in one of Dedham’s cosy old Inns for a well-deserved pint.
For days out you have Colchester Zoo which is just twenty minutes away and on a hot day you’ll be delighted by your proximity to Manningtree Beach. In addition to all of this the area has also become known for its varied and impressive eateries with several mentioned in the Michelin Guide. Try the Sun Inn in Dedham, or the Talbooth, backing onto the estate, where you can enjoy a refreshing riverside G&T. And why not finish it all off with a little vintage boating and see the area glide gently by.
At the end of the day, you can head back to your romantic hideaway, open a bottle of fizz and sink into the hot tub as the stars emerge.

Leave a reviewAs described, and very clean and kept well. However the lodge is right by a fast road, which we hadn't quite appreciated before arriving, so during the day there are big whooshes every few seconds from cars going by. Shower drain wasn't working properly so the entire bathroom floor became wet, but they provided a mop promptly and apparently this hasn't happened before. Hot tub outside was lovely, and worked well, but again -- close to a fast road, though screened by foliage etc. And perhaps it was the dreary winter weather, but the views out of the windows were limited to some steep banks dotted with trees rather than rolling vistas, and the estate grounds were not especially beautiful, though some nice parts to the east, around the river. We got slightly lost as the estate map trails did not match up to the trails we could see in front of us -- perhaps our fault -- and we were told not to wander around the estate hall, though there had been no "private" sign. Inside, the lodge was pleasantly decorated but could be improved on given the price point -- maybe we're spoiled, but seemed to be a mix of rustic and modern that didn't feel super cosy. All in all, it's as described, and there was nothing amiss about the property, but inside and outside it perhaps wasn't as gorgeous as we'd hoped.

Amazing stay here. Booked it as needed a break away from the kids for a couple of nights to recharge. The lodge is wonderful, hot tub went down a treat, the facilities are lovely and clean, the Bluetooth speaker was helpful, everything is high end, Hopefully be booking again in the new year.

Breakfast Snacks and bottle of fizz as a welcome gift which was a lovely touch. Perfect for a couple wanting to get away. The deco is beautiful and the bathroom is so pretty.
