Set on the picturesque Balmacara Estate, Coillemore House is a stunning and grand home that sleeps up to 10, offering luxurious escapes in the Scottish Highlands. Overlooking the magical Kyle of Lochalsh with the Isle of Skye only 10 minutes away, it’s the ideal retreat for a West Coast adventure.
Coillemore House, built in 1839 by the Matheson family, was originally the residence of the Estate Factor, perfectly situated on a hill to overlook the crofts below. In the 1920s, it passed to Alexander and Lady Hamilton, who rented it as a shooting lodge. Notably, Captain James Mason resided here from 1881 to 1893, chronicling his experiences in 12 Years Residence on the West Coast. A copy of his book, perfect for an evening read, sits on the coffee table in the front reception room.
Inside, you’ll find two stylish reception rooms. The main living room invites you to relax with a book or sip cocktails while watching the weather sweep across three different views. It features an open fire and a stereo with smartphone connectivity and it leads to the formal dining area where you and your group can enjoy grand social meals togehter. The second reception room is perfect for cosy nights in, with a wood-burning stove, widescreen Smart TV and plush seating.
The kitchen is a chef’s dream, equipped with a large range cooker, American fridge/freezer, espresso machine and a full array of cookware. A breakfast bar for four and dining table for 10 make it easy to gather, whether for an intimate breakfast or a big dinner.
When bedtime beckons, five individually styled bedrooms await, with views to suit every taste. On the first floor, there are two super-king rooms that can be arranged as twins and two doubles, each exuding comfort. Downstairs, a spacious, accessible super-king/twin room and a DDA-compliant wet room offer ease for those with limited mobility.
For ultimate relaxation, the garden has a wood-fired hot tub that sits off the patio, perfect for soothing tired muscles after a day’s hike. Enjoy a sunset soak with a glass in hand. Set within one-and-a-half acres of private gardens, Coillemore House boasts flowering trees, apple orchards and a wide range of plants - from lilacs and rhododendrons to wild azaleas and camellias. Wander through pathways, pick seasonal fruits or simply bask in the peace of the Highlands.
The house is a prime base for exploring Wester Ross and Skye, with countless outdoor pursuits at your doorstep.
Step from Coillemore House into Scotland’s enchanting Celtic rainforest, with nearby trails winding through ancient oak and birch woodlands.
