Anchored on a lake on a gorgeous 130 acre farm near the Blackwater Estuary, this romantic curved floating pod is the epitome of getting away from it all. Accessed by its own chain ferry platform, you simply pull yourselves across. Comfortable interiors and underfloor heating make this a cosy get away, whilst the covered deck, BBQ and rowing boat make sunny days a total joy. it is based on the wonderful Chigborough Farm, which boasts its own Michelin listed restaurant, tea room, deli, homeware store and the best fly-fishing in England.
Head out to the floating pod using the chain ferry platform - it’s simple to use, just load up and pull yourselves across. Once aboard you can revel in the stunning views across the expansive lake. The arched wooden cabin is beautiful both inside and out. The interior is charming, with a large comfortable sofa and armchair, foldable dining table and simple kitchen area. The cosy double bed takes in a wonderful framed view of the lake, the perfect accompaniment to your morning cup of tea.
The quaint kitchen has a microwave, fridge and kettle. And if you fancy some al-fresco dining then there’s a BBQ on the deck. Here you’ll also find two lovely seating areas, comfortable seating and a table. Add to this two large bean bags and you have everything covered, from outdoor dining to post-dinner lounging.
On board your floating home, you are welcome to fish in the lake where there is plenty of trout. Head out on your private rowing boat - or even take a dip.
The bathrooms and showers are located on the campsite that sits just behind the lake.
If you feel like putting your feet back onto solid ground then you’ll be pleased to discover that you’re moored on a particularly beautiful farm that has plenty to boast about. With some of the best fishing in England it’s definitely worth bringing a rod. Dine out at the farm’s Michelin guide listed restaurant, Rubino (don’t forget to book as it’s very popular). But this is not the only culinary delight - there’s also an award-winning salmon smokehouse shop, deli and cute barn cafe. And it can even deliver you some retail therapy with Terajola furniture and gifts and Chigborough Pottery. Once you’ve eaten and shopped you can then head to the Lotus Room which offers holistic therapies and a yoga room. Or, if you want to head out on the extensive cycle routes, then there’s also bike hire. They pretty much have all the bases covered.
The local area is delightful, you can walk along the sea wall to not just one but two villages (Goldhanger and Heybridge) that boast four pubs and two tea rooms between them. And the nearby historic town of Maldon (famous for its salt) is just a five minute drive away.
