Situated between the glittering blue sea off the South Coast and the rolling chalky hills of the South Downs, Birdham House is an expansive and light-filled house with stunning gardens, available for larger groups to rent on a self-catered basis. Easily capable of accommodating groups of up to twelve people between six bedrooms, this is the ultimate getaway for family reunions, wedding parties and any other big groups looking for a comfortable country house in some of the most beautiful hilly landscapes of Southern England.
The house benefits from a spacious open plan main living space, with confident, sharp lines, clean finishes and contemporary touches. Light simply pours into this room, which incorporates the kitchen, dining space, and a sitting room set up with a large television and engineered wood-burning stove. There’s direct access to the abundant outside space from this room, where you can find a verdant and vibrant collection of flowers, shrubs and bushes. The space has been set up with a gorgeous light-catching verandah, a grill capable of handling barbecued dinners for 12, and even a wood-fired hot tub, the perfect way to unwind with friends after a long day spent hiking the hills or swimming in the sea.
Each of the bedrooms is spacious and beautifully finished, with a characteristic combination of rural charm and more modern sophistication, and several of them have direct access to the outside via modern glass French doors. There is a total of five bathrooms in the house, with high pressure and hot water for post-beach washing before you jump into the hot tub. No detail has been overlooked in creating this house, from the architectural attention paid to sunlight and high ceilings to the high-end amenities in the kitchen.
With a house like this, there’s no need to leave the property, and plenty of guests spend their time recharging by reading in the garden, immersing themselves in the hot tub, and reclining on the verandah chatting. That said guests who like to unwind with heartier endeavours will be delighted by the house’s proximity to the South Downs. Set off first thing in the morning with a picnic and spend the whole day hiking through the designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or make the short journey south to some of the finest beaches in the country. For day trips, Chichester is a short drive away, while the charms of Birdham Pool Marina can be reached after a ten minute stroll.
