Hidden away from the world in picturesque, peaceful woodlands, Abel’s Cabin is the perfect place to reconnect with nature in a simple, natural location. Situated on a fifth generation working sheep farm, this beautiful, hand-built timber retreat is named after the owner’s great great grandfather who farmed and foraged in the land around the woods.
Built using local timber, lit with solar lighting and insulated with sheep’s wool, the eco hideaway is designed to be as low impact as possible. Set in an enviable position, surrounded by lush trees, you’ll be able to re-wild yourself on an exciting, outdoor adventure.
Stepping inside the simple yet homely timber cabin, you’ll discover a wonderfully light and airy space. The kitchen area boasts a wood-burning stove and all the equipment you’ll need to prepare a hearty meal. The master bedroom, with its comfortable king size bed, has large glass doors opening directly onto the surrounding woodland and offering a fantastic view of your private glade. A mezzanine level, accessed via a steep ladder, houses two low single beds, nestled cosily under the eaves.
Outside, the secluded, undercover deck is the perfect place to savour your surroundings, whatever the weather. Here you can relax in the swinging hammock, keep warm around the fire pit or cook a meal on the grill. Nearby you’ll find a private compost toilet, warm showers, a sink and drinking water.
To take your outdoor adventure to another level, why not join one of the farm’s onsite activities? You could have a go at sheep herding, take a farm tour or work up a sweat in a fitness class with a difference, where you’ll use rustic equipment such as tractor tyres and hay bales, alongside modern air bikes and weights. And if you fancy a swim, head to the indoor pool, which is heated by wood pellets.
There are endless options for wonderful walks in the surrounding area. You can take in valleys, rivers and lakes, and a short stroll will lead you to the village of Winsley where you’ll find a pub, farm shop, café and village shop. The peaceful River Avon, where you can hire paddleboards, is a 30 minute walk away and the historic city of Bath, famous for its Roman-built baths, is just a five mile drive.
