Sitting on the banks of the River Thames beside the famous Tadpole Bridge and looking out to the views of the storybook Oxfordshire Cotswolds, sits the Trout at Tadpole Bridge. This 17th Century rustic delight offers guests the authentic Inn experience, where your comfort and convenience always come first. With its expertly decorated rooms, award winning menu, and cosy pub, this really is the perfect quiet getaway for couples wishing to get lost in the relaxed air of countryside living.
The Trout has six double rooms all-in-all. Each one - in keeping with the fishing theme - is named after a fishing fly. They have all been lovingly decorated to give off a home-from-home vibe. With their vintage decor, vegan and environmentally friendly bath & body products, rain showers or claw-foot tubs, and large brass beds, you will slip right into comfort mode the moment you cross the threshold.
The Inn itself is a gorgeous Cotswold Stone building, perfectly in keeping with the aesthetic of its storybook setting. Once you’re done dining on some of the finest fresh fish available, take a step outside and absorb the sumptuous countryside views. The garden runs right the way down to the River Thames, where you can take in the tranquillity of the passing canal boats and enjoy the romantic view of the famous Tadpole Bridge.
The nearby historic market dwelling of Brampton is the archetypal Oxfordshire village. Replete with gorgeous buildings made of Cotswold stone, it doubled as the fictional Yorkshire village of Downton in the acclaimed British period drama, Downton Abbey. For those who aren't fans there is still much to appreciate, from the quaint cobbled streets to the various little shops and art galleries.
Should you wish to explore the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside or the nearby Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, then you won't be found wanting. The local area has an abundance of picturesque villages, beautiful nature trails, fishing spots, and opulent manor houses (including the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Blenheim Palace). Just a 30-minute drive from the Trout sits the town of Oxford, famed for its world class university, medieval and early modern architecture, and plethora of boutique shops and fantastic eateries.
