Set amidst rolling farmland, nestled away in the Welsh hills, Tithe House offers large groups a luxurious, self-catering retreat. Escape the trappings of day-to-day life with your loved ones in tow and enjoy a relaxing break in the beautiful countryside between the market towns of Hay-on-Wye and Builth Wells. This rustic, comfortable property lies at the end of a farmer's track and sleeps up to 12 guests in five bedrooms. And with the dramatic hills of mid-Wales looming up behind the property, you're constantly reminded of your idyllic and peaceful location.
The interiors at Tithe House reflect the owners’ extensive interest in art, sculpture, fabrics, and antique and modern furnishings. The large, fully equipped kitchen is beautiful and has everything you need to prepare proper feasts for your group, including a cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, and a dishwasher - so no one is lumbered with the washing up afterwards. The kitchen also has a farmhouse style table, meaning you can enjoy a quick bite to eat or sit with a glass of wine keeping the designated chef company. There are, however, a number of other dining areas both inside and out, for more formal feasts! And, there's even a second, smaller kitchen, which is great for caterers and works nicely as a separate baking area for children.
The amazing living spaces are perfect for socialising with your loved ones. These grand, breathtaking rooms have huge, high ceilings, with big, exposed beams and large windows flooding them with natural light. Gather around the fireplace in the spacious lounge and enjoy a drink with your loved ones, staying nice and toasty all year round. And when the weather's warm open the glass doors and let that fresh air in! The high ceilings mean that there's plenty of wall space, which has been used to great effect by the owners. Works of art are everywhere ensuring that each room is as interesting as the next.
The five bedrooms are nice and comfy, and offer you and your group a lovely night's sleep. There is one double bedroom with an en suite, as well as three further double rooms. There is then one room with two single beds and a day bed which can extend into a double - which is great for kids. There are two separate bathrooms on offer, one of which has a shower and the other with a luxurious roll top bath.
When the weather's nice you'll want to head outdoors and soak up the sunshine. Enjoy sundowners in the garden shack as you gaze out across the valley, or hop into the hot tub for a relaxing soak with a glass of bubbly. There's also a BBQ and space outside for some al fresco dining, as well as pretty lawns where the kids and play.
Guests are encouraged to venture out and explore this marvellous part of Wales. There are some truly wonderful walking routes that are located right on your doorstep and OS maps are available to borrow. Be sure to check out the Wye Valley Walk, Offa's Dyke Path, the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains, and the Elan Valley. The historic market town of Hay-on-Wye is nearby and is well worth a visit. This charming, picturesque town is known for being the Book Capital of Britain and has a high street that is littered with book stores and quirky independent shops. There are also opportunities for horse riding, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and more nearby, so you'll never be lost for things to do.

Leave a reviewWe had the most amazing family celebration at The Tithe House. It’s supremely comfortable and vibrant inside with amazing art. Its location is outstanding, with gorgeous walks and views. There’s also a huge amount of fun to be had. We enjoyed the hot tub with views of frost-sparkling mountains (it was as good as being in The Alps); we roasted marshmallows on the huge firepit and had a glorious party in the Darbari Arms, the onsite, private ‘pub’. Everything was to the highest specification and we heartily recommend a stay here - you won’t find better!

We stayed at the Tithe house with our three children. It is a stunning place -it manages to be cosy and luxurious, with so much thought put into each space and beautifully decorated. Also tons of room and character. Really well equipped for cooking and lots of space to relax and get away from it all. We loved curling up in front of the fire after a bracing walk on the hills (and the children loved the hot tub). We will be back!
