Looking out over Loch Shieldaig, Tigh Beag is well-designed and well-located sitting in sheltered woodland on the south shore of the loch. The house overlooks a beautiful bay, home to seals, otters and herons, and the direct access to the water is ideal for sea swimmers and kayakers. The interior is as impressive as the breathtaking view, offering the most inviting environment for a holiday in the Scottish Highlands.
Remote enough for that feeling of freedom, but not so far that it’s inconvenient, Tigh Beag is around three miles from the village of Shieldaig. This wonderfully picturesque village has the essential amenities you may need, including a general store, café and bar. Be sure to stop to admire the view of the loch and the mountains of Torridon and Beinn Alligin.
The house itself embraces style and simplicity in the design, which offers all sorts of luxuries in an understated way. Among them, underfloor heating throughout and you will find Neff appliances in the kitchen (oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher and a fridge freezer), and a Quooker tap for instant boiling water, as well as oak flooring throughout.
Part of the same open-plan space, the dining area seats four with a beautiful view of the loch through the patio doors. The scenic backdrop extends to the living area, where a wood-burning stove, two Ercol chairs, rocking chair and a two-seater sofa are ready to relax you. There is a Smart TV but, even with Freesat and Netflix, it’ll have a hard time competing with that view.
The bedrooms are just as appealing. The master features a Hypnos king-size bed and has its own en suite with bath and spacious walk-in shower. Also with a king-size, the second bedroom overlooks the loch and has a built-in wardrobe. There’s another shower room too.
Tigh Beag also offers a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and clothes pulley and also an outdoor sitting area. Access to the onsite garage can be made available for bicycles.
Found on the coastal road to Applecross, which provides one of Scotland’s most spectacular drives, Tigh Beag is around 70 miles from Inverness, which is the airport to look for if you’re flying in.

Leave a reviewGot a last minute deal on this fabulous cottage and boy did we get it all! Cottage is really well equipped with everything you need. The extra touches like providing some pantry basics & tea towels etc was great, as so often these are the things you forget. Bed was super comfy and so very quiet meant had some good sleeps. Exactly the kind of R&R we were after. To top off our brilliant weather week, the northern lights made along appearance along with the local otter! Would definitely stay again.

Fabulous, clean and cosy cottage with stunning view in a great quiet location right on the banks of the Loch! The owners Gordon and Iona are friendly, lovely people who will do anything to help. Nothing is too much trouble. Everything inside and out is just perfect. The house is probably one of the best equipped we have stayed at and has comfy beds and sofas. Torridon is just wonderful for walking, climbing and exploring with incredible scenery which is easily accessible from Tigh Beag. We had a fantastic week and would highly recommend this house.
