The Tabernacle is an extraordinary building. Originally a flat pack church gifted to a community in the 19th century, it was saved from destruction and stored away until it could be lovingly restored to the absolutely wonderful accommodation it now is. This breathtaking, one of a kind building (that would not look amiss in Brigadoon!) would be perfect for a small family, friends or couples wanting to rest, retreat and reset.
The interior (or chapel space) is entirely wooden and open plan with high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling altar windows creating a warm and cosy environment to snuggle up in (during proper Scottish weather). Guests can enjoy the far reaching views from the comfort of the oversized sofas with the huge wood burner keeping your toes toasty. This is a perfect environment for a wee dram or a big cup of tea, depending on your preference.
One end of The Tabernacle houses a lovely big kitchen area which is fully equipped for everything from cheese on toast to a big roast. The space has been so beautifully decorated you'll want to just move in. There's a second vestry which houses a magnificent double-ended roll top cast iron bath, big enough for two. The room is big and light and very inviting and you'll find White & Co luxury towels and bathrobes provided for your convenience.
The master bedroom is located in the mezzanine which has spectacular views over the main chapel space. An ultra-comfy king size bed that benefits from crisp white luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets, feather and down pillows and duvets. There is a further bedroom in the old vestry that contains a cozy boxed bunk bed with two full-sized singles for kids or adults with a sense of adventure.
Outside you'll find a lovely garden that blends into the stunning countryside. There's seating for al fresco dining and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate. The piece de resistance is a rather magnificent hot tub just for you with breathtaking views across the Tay Valley. Crack open some champagne, climb in and let the beauty of your surroundings wash over you.
From The Tabernacle there are endless walks to be had, fabulous also for cyclists and runners. Taking on the terrain is welcomed, whether that’s climbing mountains or a gentle stroll to the hot tub.
When it comes to dining out there's a great choice depending on your mood. The Grandtully Hotel and Tully Bar offer delicious food and the bar has a relaxed vibe. They also run a field-to-fork cookery school where you can learn to cook with some of Scotland's finest ingredients.
The local loch in a stunning location in Highland Perthshire is great for wild swimming and water sports and has a fab cafe, The Paper Boat, which serves simple locally sourced food and coffee. There's a marvellous spa, HotBox, which has a massive sauna and hot tub on the edge of the loch with a daring slide in to the icy waters for those brave enough to take the plunge. Your hosts will be happy to recommend other things to do and see in the area, of which there are plenty!
