Built adjacent to the main house as a self-contained studio for talented artist, Sir Francis LeMarchant, The Garden House at Hungerton is a beautiful and airy private apartment, available for single travellers and couples to rent on a self-catered basis. It even makes a fabulous spot for honeymooners celebrating after getting married. Four miles from Grantham, and within quick and easy driving distance of the beautiful market towns of Oakham and Stamford, The Garden House at Hungerton is the perfect getaway for anybody looking to spend time in a meticulously designed building among some of the most picturesque landscapes and historic areas in the Midlands.
The moment you step inside The Garden House, you can tell that it was conceived and built by an artist. Substantial windows look out on all points of the compass, and light floods in throughout the day, bringing to the interior the vivid greens and clear light of the outside world. The sense of spaciousness and airiness is emphasised by the double-height living/dining room - a grand but comfortable space with multiple sofas and a Smart TV. Off this area, you’ll find a great modern kitchen, well-fitted with everything that even ambitious home cooks need to whip up a romantic meal for two, as well as a microwave and washing machine.
The large bedroom enjoys views of the private country garden. It also offers a sumptuous king-sized bed, a collection of many of Sir Francis’ own art and architecture books, and access to the garden via a set of French doors. There is also a working fireplace, with wood and firelighters provided for your cosiness. The bathroom is modern and understated in its design, with a walk-in shower and elegant fixtures. Underfloor heating runs throughout.
The Garden House at Hungerton is the perfect getaway for couples and single travellers whose idea of a dreamy holiday involves quiet days pottering around in beautiful surroundings, before snuggling up with a book or movie. That said, you’re also well connected to a number of historic towns boasting excellent restaurants, bars and shopping opportunities. You can walk straight from your front door, allowing you to explore the farm and the nearby Viking Way, a SSSI with wonderful flora and fauna. Hikers and cyclists are also encouraged to make the journey to Rutland Water, the largest reservoir in Britain, while the stately home and gardens of Burghley House or Belvoir Castle are a real treat. Visit Woolsthorpe Manor, the birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton, and check out the bars, clubs and art galleries of Lincoln, a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, and Ragdale Hall and Spa is only a 20 minute journey for those in need of even deeper relaxation.

Leave a reviewThe listing on Coolstays grabbed us immediately and we were delighted to find that the Studio was as good as, if not better than expected. This cottage has the wow factor and was both comfortable and well equipped. Even the gardens and surrounding areas are stunningly beautiful. We spent 5 nights here and enjoyed every second. We discovered just how lovely Lincolnshire is with it's rolling landscape and endless pretty villages on our way to various days out. Highlights included Barnsdale Gardens and Rutland Water, Lincoln Cathedral, Woolsthorpe Manor and Easton Walled Gardens. Our excellent host Isabel was on hand to make suggestions and pointed us in the direction of a 'take your breath away' wildflower landscape which is part of the estate. We will certainly be back. An absolute gem! Beautiful triple-height former artist's studio, in a Georgian-style annex to a lovely country house set in gardens and farmland. The place is filled with light, and is immaculately and tastefully turned out, with all mod cons. We barely saw another soul during our stay, but helpful and friendly owner Isabel was on hand with tips and suggestions. Superbly restorative. The surrounding area was a revelation: more rolling than I expected from Lincolnshire, with great walking around and a reasonable scattering of good quality pubs, pretty towns etc.

The peace and tranquility of staying at The Studio was just what we needed. The studio is beautifully simple in its design and the views wonderful. Its ideally located with many places to visit such as Belvoir Castle, Rutland Water and there are many beautiful villages and towns in the area. Good restaurants and pubs to visit too. Lincolnshire and Rutland are lovely counties which is away we would like to keep a secret in order to retain their magic.

The Studio at Hungerton is the most beautiful gem! Surrounded by beautiful countryside and its own private garden, with outdoor seating and a fire bowl. secluded and yet near to cities and towns for amenities and attractions, gives you the best of both worlds. The beautiful large windows let light flood in and allow the summer breeze to keep you cool on a hot summer’s day. The shutters add character and extra cosiness in this amazingly spacious space with all the amenities you need. We highly recommend this and the owners, amazing staycation. Tranquil and healing, as a couple we had recently lost loved ones and tis gave us time to heal. Fresh fluffy white towels, bath robes and bedding greeted us and Isobel and the family are wonderful hosts, nothing is too much trouble.
