Stunning romantic getaway in a former Lake District workshop with access to a full spa and gym.
On the site of the Mirefoot complex, arranged over a ground floor and mezzanine, The Shippon is a former wood store and workshop which has been lovingly renovated into a high-spec one bedroom self-catering cottage in England’s picturesque Lake District. With floor-to-ceiling windows, a landscaped patio, and a full spa and pool within the estate, The Shippon is the perfect place for couples looking to spend time in the Lake District in serious style.
Benefitting from full height windows, the open plan kitchen-cum-dining room in The Shippon has a light and airy feel, and enjoys a full day of Cumbria light. The interior aesthetic marries clean modern architecture finished in white and neutral colours with the original exposed oak beams, creating a truly remarkable space. The kitchen is well-appointed, providing everything ambitious cooks will need during the course of their stay. Off this main kitchen and dining space, you’ll find a spacious bedroom with wall mounted television, and en-suite fitted bathroom with modern tiling and appliances.
Everything in this property has been cleverly designed to guarantee a comfortable and luxurious stay, from the double-ended bath tub facing the widescreen television to the living space, an extraordinary mezzanine level with a contemporary gas fire and substantial L shaped sofa. With clean finishes and a unifying style which suggests subtle elegance and indulgence, returning to The Shippon after a day of walking the world-famous hills, crags and valleys of the Lake District is like settling into a warm bath. Whether your idea of the dream getaway involves hitting the gym in the early hours before scrambling up a peak to enjoy a panoramic vista of Northern England, or pampering yourself in a full spa a stone’s throw from your high-end modern cottage, The Shippon at Mirefoot is an accommodation option where nobody has to compromise.
The Kendal region has inspired countless artists and writers for generations with its plunging, dramatic topography and rugged unspoiled beauty. Visitors flock there throughout the year to take in the wild and wonderful views and fauna. At The Shippon you’ll be staying within the National Park itself, without being isolated from amenities and businesses.
Mirefoot Cottages supply illustrative walking maps with three suggested routes straight from the door lasting from one to two-and-a-half hours - you can access the fells straight from the door. The nearest supermarkets are a 10-15 minute drive and there are cafes, pubs, breweries and coffee shops nearby in Staveley. The Handsome Brewery is open at weekends less than 10 minutes down the road, and the Eagle and Child pub in Staveley is an hour's walk along the river Kent (and a bit more back over the hill or a 10 minute taxi ride!). For those wishing to push the culinary boat out there are excellent gastropubs, restaurants and fine dining experiences nearby. Try the Punchbowl Inn at Crosthwaite, Gilpin Spice near Crook or Forest Side near Grasmere.
The Shippon is owned and managed by Mark Baker.
