Nestled within an orchard on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, you’ll find this beautifully restored Devon bank barn which was once used to store apples from the surrounding trees. Master builders sourced local materials to transform the barn into this stylish holiday home, perfect for couples. The original stone barn now sits below the new larch-clad accommodation which features a beautifully designed, light-filled living space and a luxurious king size bedroom. This all makes for a great base for exploring Devon with the National Park, the river Dart and charming market towns such as Ashburton all on your doorstep.
Step inside and you’ll be greeted by the large open plan living, dining and kitchen space. This is bright and airy thanks to the high vaulted ceilings and the skylights letting in plenty of natural light. After a long walk on Dartmoor, you’ll be able to snuggle up on the sofa or on the Mulberry bean bag and enjoy some of the locally sourced treats from your welcome hamper. There’s space for four around the dining table and the bespoke kitchen is fully-equipped with everything you’ll need for anything from quick breakfasts to fancy dinners.
Move through to the king size bedroom with its Simba mattress and crisp white bed linen. There’s a stylish ensuite bathroom with a rainfall shower and Nest controlled heating will make sure you’re cosy whatever the weather. Large floor-to-ceiling windows open out to let in some of that fresh countryside air and allow you to better enjoy the stunning views over the Dart valley.
Outside, there’s half an acre of private orchard where you can while away warm afternoons out in the sunshine. There’s a BBQ and some outdoor furniture so you can make the most of the scenery during the day and a firepit to keep you warm if you want to stay out in the evenings and toast some marshmallows.
If you fancy a bit of wild swimming as a refreshing start to the day, the River Dart is just a five minute walk from the barn down a quiet country lane. If hiking or cycling are more your thing, a five minute drive will get you to the top of the Moor where you can take your pick from dozens of scenic trails. Visit the pretty market town of Ashburton, a short cycle or drive from the barn, and explore the antique shops before stopping for lunch at one of the cafes or restaurants. If you fancy a change of scene, the beaches of south Devon are just 40 minutes away by car.

Leave a reviewFabulous quiet location with great links to Dartmoor, surrounding villages and towns and the Devon Expressway. Beautifully presented and lovely and clean. We had a tranquil week and enjoyed walking on the moors and travelling farther afield to Dartmouth and Salcombe. The River Dart is a 15 minutes walk from the barn and we enjoyed splashing around in it one warm evening. The owners are friendly and welcoming and their dog is very inquisitive and happy to be patted. We tried some of the eateries on Serena’s list and enjoyed them all. Highly recommended for a quiet break or long weekend.

We had a wonderful time at the Orchard Bank Barn! A lovely place, cosy, clean, spacious and comfortable. The view from the bedroom is fantastic! Serena and Mark had good tips for tasty restaurants and sights to see. The location is perfect, near Dartmoor National Park and lovely towns as Ashburton. We loved every day of our stay! ??

Our second stay and we will return. This is a fantastic conversion and is beautifully decorated and equipped. Serena and Mark have thought of everything you might want and are very welcoming. There is a lot to do in the area but you could also just stay at the barn and chill.

This deserves more than five stars and I could not fault it. Booking and communication were clear, simple and a pleasure. The directions straightforward and arrival easy. Serena and Mark were welcoming and helpful and the barn was immaculately clean and equipped with everything you could need. The decor, furnishings and little extras made this the perfect haven. In the absence of being able to take the barn home we will return..

We had the most amazing long weekend stay here. The decor was great with lots of nice touches and you could tell Serena and Mark had thought of everything to make for a really enjoyable stay. The garden area and view of the surrounding countryside also took things to another level. We’d love to return!

Mark and Serena have made this beautiful barn conversation a wonderful and comfortable place to stay. Fabulous and luxurious interior design , complemented by Serena’s artwork. Comfortable beds and a beautiful bathroom. The barn is close to Ashburton which has many lovey restaurants and artisan food shops. A short drive away is Dartmoor National Park. There are some great pubs offering good home cooked food in the villages close to the barn. Definitely a great place to stay and we would highly recommend.

Serena and mark welcomed us to their beautiful converted barn this new years! Although sharing their driveway the barn is cleverly set so that you only see the surrounding countryside! The decor is fab, really modern but with luxurious touches such as bath robes and toiletries and a very thoughtful bottle of fizz to welcome in the new years. It’s a good walk (20 mins) to the local town but it’s worth it for the amazing delis and restaurants (highly recommend Emilia). Overall a fabulous stay which we’d love to return to!
