The Old Watch House was once home to the watchmen, who would sit and look out for smugglers, monitoring ships as they come and go into Mousehole Harbour. This historic building has now been renovated into a bright and beautiful holiday home that offers groups of up to eight guests a fab retreat by the sea. A gate from the garden opens up to steps (originally a slipway for the watchman's boat) that take you immediately down to the rocky beach, and natural sea pool. A sandy beach nestles in the harbour.
Once you step into the property you enter a spacious dining room that features a giant, bleached wood table and chairs where you can gather for social meals and hearty breakfasts. The space has a charming, Cornish style thanks to the chunky slate flagstones and exposed stone Inglenook fireplace. The room also features a bespoke bookcase, with a number of books for you to read during your stay.
When it comes to meal preparation, the stylish kitchen has everything you need to prepare delicious dinners and delightful breakfasts. The space features a range cooker, wine cooler, fridge/freezer, microwave and a dishwasher so no one is lumbered with the washing up. The kitchen has yet more of that seaside charm thanks to the hand-painted units, granite worktops and slate flagstones. The kitchen also features a quaint snug area, which houses two sofas and large doors that open up onto the sunny patio area. Out here you have some alfresco dining furniture as well as a BBQ that you can fire up when the weather's warm. Sit and enjoy some delicious, locally sourced food with a nice drink as you watch the sun set over the water, and the seals frolic on St Clements Isle. The gardens are spectacular, with the Garden Wall being the Sea Wall.
Back inside, the lounge has ancient elm flooring and a fabulous fireplace with an open fire that give the space a cosy feel. Sink into the deep sofas with your loved ones or get comfy in the viewing chairs and gaze out the huge bay window at the sea and harbour below. The lounge is ideal for movie nights as well as board game sessions, and in winter you'll want to hunker down and watch the storms outside.
When it comes to bed time, there are four bedrooms that sleep up to eight guests. There are two king size rooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Both king rooms feature a restored antique bed and wardrobes as well as coastal-style furniture and luxury blackout curtains. Both rooms also offer sea views thanks to their big bay windows and they each have their own luxurious ensuite bathroom. There are also two twin bedrooms on the first floor with sea views and an opulent family bathroom with a large copper, tin-lined bath that offers you the ideal spot for a relaxing soak. The bathroom also features a separate glass shower.
The Old Watch House sits in the charming Cornish village of Mousehole. This quaint place has a beautiful working harbour and a number of lovely pubs and eateries. Be sure to visit The Ship Inn, which serves up traditional pub classics and local beer and ale. Hole Foods Deli and Cafe is a lovely delicatessen that stocks a wide range of local products, beers, wines and spirits as well as a selection of home made sandwiches and pasties for you to take away. Other nice eating options include The Rock Pool Café, Four Teas Café and The Old Pilchard Press.
When it comes to things to do, you can reach St Michael's Mount by walking across the causeway at low tide or by a boat service that runs between the Mount and Marazion beach. You're also nicely located to hop in the car and visit the world famous Minnack Theatre, which is a spectacular open air theatre in Porthcurno where plays and music are performed from May to September. And if you fancy a day on the beach, the nearby beaches of Porthcurno, Porthgwarra and St Ives are all worth a visit.
