Walk down the Roman steps and feel the cool saltwater infinity pool envelop you as you take in the incredible views across the valley and mountains towards Mount Etna. Located at the heart of a rural estate comprising the main manor house and various agricultural buildings, including an old millstone, this home is a haven of peace and tranquillity. Relax in the glorious gardens on a sun lounger, and then enjoy an alfresco lunch of pasta alla Norma.
This beautiful home has recently been restored to the highest standards to preserve its original character. Stone floors and imposing pillars blend with gorgeous antique furniture and classic oil paintings – it's everything you want from a country house. We love the vistas from the bedrooms with their bright red balconies and shutters. This place is perfect for a family or group of friends who want to get away from it all.
When you feel rejuvenated, explore the local area. You can taste the local wine in many vineyards dotted around, or head to the village of Castiglione, nestled upon a hill on the north side of Mount Etna (thirteen minutes by car) or visit Piedimonte, a twenty-eight-minute drive. If you prefer a day at the beach, then Fiumefreddo is just over thirty-five minutes away.
Ash-topped Mount Etna rises from the heart of Sicily, lending a fiery flair to this sun-kissed island to the south of Italy. The volcanic terroir is perfect for grape, tomato and olive growing and family-run restaurants make the most of juicy beefsteak tomatoes drenched in olive oil, washed down with a glass of sweet Malvasia or fruity Novello.
There are plenty of dining spots to choose from in the buzzing cities of Palermo, Catania and Syracuse. Palermo itself is the capital where you’ll find ancient Byzantine churches, ruined palaces and a 12th-century Cathedral.
The ancient port city of Catania sits in the shadow of Etna and trails lead from here to the summit. Piazzas are filled with restaurants and bars, and the weekly fish market sells the freshest catch of the day. While Syracuse on the Ionian Sea is steeped in Greek myth and legend. Away from the cities, Sicily’s coastline is dotted with villas that have stood for centuries and beaches with turquoise shallows.
