Charming, recently-restored country cottage with views of the Peak District’s Hope Valley, a romantic retreat or relaxing family escape.
Tucked away in a pretty village in the Peak District’s Hope Valley, this charming semi-detached cottage is a relaxing escape for couples or families. This cottage was recently restored to provide a cosy bolthole for those looking to explore the surrounding countryside and the area’s picturesque villages during the day. In the evenings, Hugh Cottage has all the creature comforts you might need to recover from a long walk or bike ride to the Derwent Reservoirs or Bamford Edge. Put your feet up in front of the wood burner in the living room after dinner at a Michelin Guide Country Inn just down the road.
During its recent restoration, the cottage has received several upgrades, such as a brand new kitchen. The lovely original floor tiles are still underfoot, however, the rest of the space has been kitted out with a whole new range of appliances in a stylish black and white colour scheme with sunny splashes of yellow. There is a dining area with plenty of room for four which is a cosy spot for breakfast or a glass of wine while dinner preparations get underway.
The newly installed wood-burner is the centre-piece of the warm and welcoming living room. You’ll have a basket of logs and kindling to get you started and the shop around the corner will keep you well supplied. In the evenings, sink into the big comfy sofa or one of the armchairs and get stuck into a good book or a film while the fire crackles away.
There are two bedrooms that share a contemporary-style shower room. The large master bedroom is equipped with a super king-size bed that can easily be converted into twin beds if required. This room also has a walk-in wardrobe area and a TV. The second bedroom is a cosy and relaxing space with a luxurious double bed.
Outside, you’ll find a lovely garden with a lawn, flower beds and a patio with pretty views of Hope Valley Hill. There is a second patio to the rear of the cottage with a table and chairs which becomes a sun trap, making it the perfect spot to dine outdoors on warmer days.
Hugh Cottage is set in the pretty village of Bradwell with winding lanes to wander through, stopping off at the bakery or one of the three pubs along the way. Castleton, Hathersage and Hope are also nearby and you can spend relaxed afternoons exploring these picture-perfect villages and their pretty streets. There are endless routes for walking and cycling in the area, many accessible without getting in the car. To get your bearings, tackle the steep Rebellion Knoll, the hill that dominates the area and then explore the area’s famous caverns, the Great Ridgeline and Mam Tor.
