Set in eight acres of grounds, overlooking the spectacular Dornoch Firth, the beautiful Embo House dates back to the sixteenth century. It was originally a castle of the Clan Gordon before being given an elegant Georgian update, making it perfect holiday accommodation for large groups. Sleeping up to 16 guests, the house offers a beautiful library, a grand dining room, a whisky bar, a hot tub and even a golf practice pitching area. It’s just short stroll down to Embo beach for views across the Firth and a few miles from the first tee of the famous Royal Dornoch Championship Golf Course.
Step inside this historic house and you'll find a welcoming interior that blends traditional charm, a few grand touches and plenty of modern comforts. The bright and airy kitchen and dining room becomes the social hub of the house at mealtimes with all the equipment you'll need to rustle up the family favourites. Stay cosy in the evening with a fire crackling away in the wood burner as you gather around the table for dinner. For more formal occasions, the elegantly furnished dining room features a huge table, complete with two silver candelabras, in front of a large fireplace.
After dinner, explore the house to find the perfect spot to put your feet up. The sitting room offers comfy sofas in front of an open fire with spectacular views out to the Dornoch Firth. Alternatively, you can retreat to the beautiful library, lined with shelves of books and featuring a cosy seating area. There's also a games room with a well equipped bar, a pool table and a TV.
There are eight beautifully furnished bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms and seven with sea views. Five of the bedrooms have super-king size beds that can be split into twins to offer plenty of flexibility for groups of friends or family. You'll be able to hear the sounds of the waves on the shore as you drift off to sleep, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
Outside, there are over eight acres of grounds to explore with lawns, wooded areas and fruit and herbs to pick. On the terrace, there's a large charcoal BBQ and a pizza oven, perfect for lazy afternoons in the sunshine. Head out to the Summerhouse for a glass of something as the sun sets or enjoy a dip in the hot tub. If you want to get some practice before tackling the world class course at Royal Dornoch, head to the pitching area where you'll have to avoid a water hazard and a bunker to reach the green. If golf isn't your thing, there's a boules court in the back garden and a croquet lawn at the front of the house.
There's plenty of exploring to do in this part of the Highlands, with stunning beaches on the doorstep, whisky distilleries nearby and historic sites to visit, such as Dornoch Cathedral just a few miles down the road. Stroll along the path from the house to Embo Beach and head north to Dornoch Beach for a picturesque coastal walk. You can also go south to the National Nature Reserve of Loch Fleet to do a bit of birdwatching and try and spot some seals. Try your hand at fishing in the nearby lochs, rivers or sea, or head out to explore the countryside on your bike. There are half a dozen excellent links golf courses within an hour of the house, making it perfect for a golfing trip.
