This former church sits in the centre of the historic market town of Strathaven in South Lanarkshire. Sleeping up to 19 guests across nine bedrooms, the church has been lovingly decorated by the owners, with many original features (such as stained-glass windows) helping to retain the original character of the building. This ensures an aesthetic that is at once contemporary and traditional. Besides the stunning architectural features, the church boasts a 20-seater dining table, a stunning modern kitchen, a games area with pool table and board games. All this and its storybook location in such a picturesque Scottish setting makes for the perfect group getaway.
The ground floor houses the majority of the bedrooms: three super-king bedrooms (with one ensuite), one twin, and one triple bedroom. A family bathroom contains a shower and gorgeous freestanding bath while the utility room has a washer and dryer. For the kids, both big and small, there is Waterside. This spacious room has a pool table and an informal seating area - perfect for getting a tournament on the go.
The first floor contains the main focal point of the church: a large open-planned communal area with high ceilings, ornate support columns, and original stained-glass windows. There are two seating areas with couches, while additional seating for 14 guests can be found in front of the wood burning stove. This is the perfect spot to socialise with your loves ones enjoying a glass of wine by the fire. The modern kitchen area is fully equipped and boasts a Belfast sink, range cooker, lots of workspace, and an island/breakfast bar. This makes meal prep a breeze. Lastly, the dining area features a huge 20-seater oak painted table that is perfect for grand group dinners. To the left of the elegant entrance hallway is a super-king size bedroom, while a large family bathroom with rainfall shower and yet another free-standing bathtub is to the right.
The first floor has three additional bedrooms: one ensuite double, one ensuite twin, and the magnificent John Hastie Suite. This arresting space has a four-poster bed, a huge shuttered arched window, and a large ensuite bathroom for added privacy. On the same floor a balcony connects both sides of the church and overlooks the lounge area. Just to the front of the property is Allison Green, a well-kept park where you can enjoy a nice stroll in the morning before setting out for the day.
The local area offers plenty to see and do. During the summer you can attend the Strathaven Gala celebrations, which includes the famous Duck Race down the Powmillon burn. In August, the town celebrates an annual Hot Air Balloon Festival. The ruins of Strathaven Castle are easily accessible in the town centre, as is the 17th century Town Mill. Nearby activities on offer include paintballing, the National Museum of Rural Life, Chatelherault Country Park, and Strathclyde Country Park. For a taste of city life, Strathaven is less than 20 miles from Glasgow, Scotland's largest city.
