Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenes, within 630 acres of uninterrupted forests, valleys, vineyards and hillsides, Domaine de la Vène is an extraordinary stately home, decorated and maintained with total authenticity. Comfortably accommodating up to sixteen guests between the main chateau and a freestanding cottage-style annexe, Domaine de la Vène represents a truly once in a lifetime self-catering holiday home which will stay with you long after you depart.
The tranquillity and splendour of life at Domaine de la Vène are truly staggering; the house itself has a ten acre garden, and swimming pool. Outside of the garden, the largest estate in the vicinity stretches out seemingly boundlessly, offering guests stunning views which are uninterrupted by the blight of manmade structures, save for the occasional vineyard or olive grove.
Inside the property itself, you’ll immediately find that the remarkable architecture has been subtly emphasised with judicious touches such as antique art objects, original fittings, and oil paintings of the villa’s historic family. The living quarters are split between the main chateau, an 1,100 square metre country mansion with a king sized bedroom, four doubles, and three twins, and the freestanding cottage-style annexe, which sleeps six between one double bedrooms and two twins. Both houses can be rented individually or as a package.
While the aesthetic of the property is primarily that of the Provencal style, tasteful modifications in the Georgian and Victorian eras have created a unique and fascinating house with a huge amount of character and charm. While the décor is largely unchanged after several hundred years, the entertainment system offers all of the comfort of the twenty first century; as well as Wi-Fi throughout, there is a home cinema, satellite television, and a stereo system which extends throughout the entire house.
Choose between the two kitchens, allowing for formal and more casual dining experiences, and dine either at the full sixteen person banqueting table, or take your locally produced meat and produce from the fireplace-cum-barbecue and enjoy an al fresco meal in the delightful Southern France evening.
While you’ll certainly experience privacy and nature, you’re hardly isolated from the thriving French culture and lifestyle for which the area has long been celebrated. With numerous vineyards, restaurants, and villages dotted nearby, you’re ideally placed to experience French cuisine, wine and living at their finest. The town of Carcassonne is just fifteen minutes away, and boasts a UNESCO celebrated medieval citadel, as well as countless boutiques, bars, eateries and galleries. Alternatively, make the fifty minute journey to the stunning Mediterranean for a day trip, before returning to your decadent and stylish villa. Ask about Michelin starred dining just twenty minutes away.
