This beautifully refurbished watermill is set on the banks of the River Hérault in an idyllic spot in the south of France. It has recently been transformed into a luxurious holiday home with five bedrooms, plenty of the building’s original character and nothing to disturb you but the sound of the water gently flowing by. Perfect for trips with the whole family or escapes with groups of friends. Enjoy picnics by the banks of the river, sample some of the local wine on the terrace and venture down to the coast and the many miles of sandy beaches.
Access to The French Watermill is via a bridge taking you over some of the old mill equipment and giving you a first glimpse of some of the beautiful river views. Inside, you’ll find that the building has been carefully restored with its wooden beams left exposed and furnished in a contemporary French style with lovely pieces of antique furniture. You’ll find plenty of places to sit back and relax with the unique shape of the building creating cosy nooks, perfect for curling up with a book.
There are five bedrooms in total, each with its own ensuite bathroom with a shower. There are four double rooms and a twin which all have their own character thanks to the unusual architecture and relaxing colour schemes. Two of the bedrooms are on the mezzanine level with beautiful exposed beams overhead.
Outside, there’s a gorgeous terrace overlooking the river, the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee with a fresh pastry. To make things even easier, you can arrange to have your breakfast delivered each morning. Head down to the river and try your hand at a spot of fishing or some watersports if that’s more your cup of tea. In the evenings, sit down by the water with a glass of wine from the local vineyards as you watch the sunset over the river.
If you feel the urge to explore further than your tranquil riverside retreat, there’s plenty to do in the local area. Explore Pezenas and do a bit of shopping at the market, stocking up on cheese and treats for the barbecue. Go for a wine tasting at one of the local vineyards, such as Seigneurie de Peyrat. The French Watermill is located just a 20-minute drive from the south coast of France, making it easy to head down to the beach for the day.
