This beautiful former paper mill sits in a stunning valley in France’s superb Dordogne region, offering groups of up to 14 guests a marvellous and peaceful stay. The Couze valley is a dreamy destination for your next group getaway, and this wonderfully renovated and furnished retreat sits on a private island, surrounded by rivers, forests and rolling countryside.
Inside, the mill offers a combination of rustic charm and modern comfort, but when you step outside, you’ll be amazed by the giant swimming pool and fabulous outdoor seating areas. While away your days swimming in the water or lounging in the sunshine by the pool’s edge. Grab a drink and sit beneath the wisteria, warming toes in the sun as you catch up with loved ones. Then, when the sun sets, dine outside to the sound of the owls and the river flowing by as the stars come out above.
Heading inside, Fontalbe has a grand and spacious kitchen that is equipped with modern appliances making meal prep a dream. Grab a stool and sit around the big kitchen island with a glass of wine in hand as your loved one whips up a delicious feast. The kitchen also features big glass doors that connect you to the outside offering lovely views of the gardens.
On cooler nights, gather together in the cosy lounge, where big sofas sit around a wood-burning fireplace. Light the fire and stay toasty and warm as you chat the night away with your loved ones.
There’s also an indoor dining room, should you wish to dine inside. This is a nice, spacious room with a big dining table that can seat your entire group. Large French doors connect the dining room to the gardens, flooding the space with natural light.
When night falls, Fontalbe has six big, comfy bedrooms, all of which have ensuite bathrooms for added privacy. All of the bedrooms can be configured as king size or twin rooms and the bathrooms all have large, walk-in showers and heated towel rails. One of the bedrooms even has a fantastic, deluxe free-standing bathtub that sits by a window. This is the ideal place to rest weary muscles after a day out exploring the area. One of the bedrooms also has a staircase down to an apartment with a kitchen, dining area and a sofa bed, making it perfect for a group of four who are comfortable sharing the same ensuite.
If you venture out and explore, you'll find that the Dordogne region is one of France’s most picturesque areas, offering relaxation and adventure alike. Enjoy horse riding, golf, cycling, walking or canoeing on the Dordogne River. Explore bustling village markets filled with cheeses, fresh produce and more.
Dine at local restaurants like Table de Leo or visit charming villages. Wine lovers can tour local vineyards or Bordeaux’s world-famous estates. History buffs can explore prehistoric cave paintings, medieval abbeys and stunning châteaux. To ensure a hassle-free stay, the owners provide a welcome booklet with recommendations and contacts eight weeks before your arrival.
