This beautiful 17th century former wine chateau offers elegant accommodation across three buildings – the chateau, le Chalet and La Maison du Gardien. Thoughtfully renovated, this beguiling escape on the edge of the the village of Carsac-de-Gurson in the Dordogne region of France would be a wonderful holiday home for a large multi-generational family, or a group of up to 14 friends seeking sun, sea, wine and cheese in gorgeous surroundings.

The chateau, le Chalet and La Maison du Gardien have all been beautifully restored and you'll arrive to find something quintessentially French with traditional furnishings, many original features and modern amenities to ensure comfort and ease. Think cool stone walls, tiled and wood flooring, original fireplaces, beams and twisting stairwells. Cool and shaded in the summer, made cosy by rugs and wood burners in the winter, the chateau and its accompanying buildings are perfect whatever time of year you visit.

Upon arrival you might like to select your room and dispense of your luggage before gathering together in the beautiful Sun Room for a welcome drink with views of the valley through the large windows which bring the outside in and give you a sense of your surroundings. This is also a great place to chill out and play board games or set the kids up with a movie.

On chillier days The Library is a wonderfully cosy place to gather, with huge sofas, shelves crammed full of books and a wood burning stove where you can curl up with a glass of wine.

When it's time to eat you'll love the traditional French kitchen which has a range cooker and all the modern amenities to make preparing meals simple and pleasurable. Whether you go all out or simply embrace the culture and enjoy some charcuterie and cheese with fabulous St Emilion wines, you can all make yourselves comfortable in the elegant dining room which will happily seat 12 in style and comfort. But on warmer days you might like to head out and eat alfresco!

The chateau itself sleeps 10 people in five spacious and comfortable rooms, two of which have ensuite facilities. The remaining rooms share a large family bathroom. Le Chalet offers a large double mezzanine bedroom with ensuite and has its own kitchen and diner if couples are seeking some privacy in delightful surroundings. And La Maison du Gardien also has accommodation for a couple with a king size bed and its own bathroom, dining, living and kitchen spaces. All three houses are wonderful and designed to provide a good selection of choice depending on groups and dynamics.

After a good night's rest and an invigorating shower, head to the chateau kitchen and make use of the Nespresso machine. You might like to take a stroll through the vineyards to the village and return with fresh croissants and bread for everyone to share out on the terrace with the stunning views of the valley and vineyard. The rest of the day can be spent by the pool on the sun loungers, swinging in the hammock in the garden or getting a gang together to play petanque, badminton or swing ball.

There's so much to keep you entertained in the area you'll be spoilt for choice. Wander the orchards or explore the wildflower meadows or head to Lac de Gurson, a public swimming lake with a beach that's one kilometre away. Browse the markets in the medieval villages, sample world class wines and enjoy the bistros and Michelin star eateries, or just drift down the Dordogne on a kayak. At the end of the day settle on to the terrace with an apéritif as the sun sets over your castle in France.
