In the beautiful Landais Forest of the Dordogne, between Bordeaux and Bergerac, lies the 60 acres of field, wood and lakes that make up Terre et Toi. In this breathtaking setting you'll find three unique and beautifully designed cabins: Skylark, a luxury duplex lakeside treehouse, Elvensong, a hand-sculpted earthen cabin, and Cariad, a wooden waterside cabin. Each cabin sleeps two and would be perfect for couples or a group of six to seven friends seeking an idyllic lakeside holiday in the south of France.
All three of the cabins have been built sustainably and blend harmoniously with their surroundings. The designs are quite breathtaking and reflect the natural beauty of the area, each one bathed in light and steeped in a timeless woodland that wouldn't be amiss in a fairytale.
Skylark is a dream, a treehouse built on two floors with eleven glass doors and windows overlooking the wild swimming lake below. The interior is light-filled, mostly wood with gorgeous soft furnishings and a large terrace with hanging chairs and loungers where you can touch the nurturing oaks that encircle you. The kitchen is well equipped for the making of feasts. Upstairs you'll find the bedroom which boasts a king size bed among the branches of the tree canopy and French doors opening on to a terrace. Outside you'll find a wood fired Jacuzzi in a private forest garden where you can immerse yourself in the warm bubbling waters and let the beauty of vibrant and unspoiled nature enfold you. There's a row boat on the lake for you to laze away an afternoon and the water is also perfect for a swim.
Elvensong stands in a flourishing woodland clearing, hidden from view just a few meters from the waters edge. An overhead light-well formed by spiralling roof rafters bathes the hand-sculpted interiors with natural light and from the king-size bed there are views all around the hexagonal cabin into the surrounding forest. The interior is lovely and rustic with clean lines and a distinct feeling of living inside a tree! This cabin has an alfresco kitchen in a secluded garden with a canopy which is quite fantastic and has everything you could need to cook up a great meal or prep your ingredients for the BBQ. There's also a dining area, sun loungers, a swing seat and a hammock. Read a book and doze in the hammock then mooch down the private pathway to the lake and take a dip or glide away on the row boat. In the evening sink into your very own woodland hot tub and spot the stars between the canopies of the trees.
Cariad stands perched over its own private pond - an idyllic retreat where the forest meets the water. With French doors on three sides, the interiors are bathed in light and water reflections and from the canopied bed you can stargaze through the overhead skylight. The cabin has a wraparound terrace making the most of the surrounding views and on the shady woodland side you'll find a hammock and swing seats. On the other side is another brilliant alfresco kitchen which has views across the pond and into the woods. And the sun drenched water-side terrace stands directly over the pond with sun beds, a dining space and your own boat tied up to the side. It’s the perfect place to bask in the sun, watch the sunset, and marvel at the dragonflies, butterflies, star light and silence.
Each cabin has private access to a trail across the land at Terre et Toi. It leads you through the woods, across the fields and past ancient oaks to some lovely hidden lakes.
To stock up your kitchen, head to Montpon, 15 minutes away, where you'll find supermarkets and an organic mini market. There's also a small grocery shop and a bar for a refreshing beer in the village a mile away. There are also traditional markets close by where you can find locally produced vegetables, cheese, honey and crafts. For dining out you might like to try 'Au Fil d’eau' in Port St Foy which is on the banks of the Dordogne and has an outside terrace overlooking the river.

Leave a reviewJust arrived home from a beautiful stay in the skylark, everything was perfect from start to finish, it was even more spectacular in person, Sara was at hand on arrival, we enjoyed breakfast on the terrace listening to the hum of nature all around us, showering watching the leaves in the trees blowing in the breeze was pure heaven. We cooled off with dips in the lake and enjoyed star gazing in the hottub in the evenings. The kingsize bed was super comfortable, all in all it was a perfect stay

My new wife and I arrived at the Cariad Cabin 3rd July after just getting married on the 1st and although we was severely underprepared (we didn’t rent a car oops) Sara the owner was incredibly helpful and welcoming!! Unfortunately the nearest biking distance store was shut on a Monday but, Sara very kindly gave us a few ingredients to cook ourselves a dinner before we could stock up with bits the next day!! Sara has been ever so wonderful and the cabin itself is beautiful! We had a wonderful few days just relaxing by the pond, taking the little row boat out a few times! We felt like the only two people on earth! (Which was a lovely break from hectic 18 months worth of wedding planning). My only advice to people wanting to stay would be to definitely rent a car!! The shop that’s a 20 min walk a way is very small which only a few necessities! The supermarkets are about a 15min drive! That and you’ll need a car to get back to the airport as, Bolt (whom which we arrived with) don’t operate all the way out here! Sara was in contact if we needed anything and we absolutely love what she’s created out here with her eco houses!
