This marvellous collection of five cosy cottages sits on a beautiful organic farm in La Gripperie-Saint-Symphorien, in Charente-Maritime, France. With each cottage able to be booked separately or together for one giant group getaway, this is the perfect holiday retreat for small group getaways and giant family gatherings. To top it off, this collection of cottages sits in the heart of the area, and is located between Rochefort, Saintes, Marennes and Royan.
Each of the five cottages has been renovated using ecological materials, offering plenty of light and peace, so you and your loved ones can enjoy a deep connection with nature.
Cottage 1 sleeps eight people and is a dreamy countryside escape. With a soaring cathedral ceiling and sun-soaked open-plan living space, it’s the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. The cottage boasts three inviting bedrooms. Two elegant adult suites feature private bathrooms, while a charming four-bed dormitory - with its spacious double-shower bathroom - makes it ideal for families or groups looking to spread out in style.
Cottage 2, sleeping four guests in total, has yet another grand social living space, with a high ceiling and giant windows that flood the space with natural light. Thoughtfully renovated the cottage exudes natural warmth and authenticity and the mezzanine features a cosy adult bedroom that overlooks the main living area, while the ground floor offers a charming twin bedroom complete with its own stylish bathroom.
Cottage 3 sleeps five guests, with a similar open-plan living space to the first two cottages. The ground floor features a serene adult bedroom with a grand, comfy bed, while upstairs, a charming child’s bedroom with three single beds and its own bathroom offers a playful retreat for kids.
Up next is Cottage 4, which sleeps a whopping 14 people. Boasting a vast, light-filled living space with a another dramatic cathedral ceiling, this room offers the perfect spot to gather, unwind, and soak up the countryside charm. The mezzanine features a cosy library overlooking the main living area, while the sleeping quarters include three spacious adult bedrooms and two delightful children’s rooms, each with bunk beds. With four bathrooms to share, everyone can enjoy their own space.
And last but not least, Cottage 5 sleeps five guests offering a fab stay in a beautifully restored 18th-century dovecote. Perfect for families or couples, it’s a cosy retreat and the ground floor features a welcoming living room, while upstairs you'll find two inviting bedrooms - a romantic adult double and a playful children’s room with three single beds.
Guests staying in any of the five cottages are also able to make use of the large swimming pool (12m x 6m), which offers a great place to unwind in the summer sunshine or sit with a book as the kids play in the water.
When you arrive you and your loved ones will take a tour of the farm and the owners will show you what you can harvest, straight from the field. You’re welcome to harvest as much as you want, to cook up in your cottage. There are 25 varieties of amazing tomatoes, and every vegetable you could think of (the farm specialises in supplying top restaurants with top vegetables), herbs, strawberries and raspberries, as well as eggs from the chicken house!
If you decide to head out and explore the area, there’s lots to see and do offering the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. Spend sunny days on the pristine beaches of the Atlantic coast, just a short drive away - ideal for swimming, sunbathing or surfing. Explore the Château de Saint-Jean-d'Angle, a medieval fortress with interactive exhibits and lush gardens. Wander the charming streets of nearby Rochefort or La Rochelle, brimming with history, shops and restaurants. For nature lovers, cycle through scenic countryside or visit Marais Poitevin, the "Green Venice," for tranquil boat rides.
