This lovely wooden shepherd's hut sits on raised decking, surrounded by nature, overlooking pretty lines of orchard trees. Beautifully designed, it would be perfect for a couple seeking a peaceful romantic getaway without the distractions of technology and noise.
The interior of the hut is delightful and cosy and contains everything you could need for a rejuvenating break. There's a comfy king size bed with wooden framing matching the walls and a curved ceiling nestled at one end of the hut. You'll find ample storage space beneath. There are three raised windows around the bed with blackout blinds which can be left up to allow the morning sun to flood in.
A quaint and perfectly formed kitchen area with a small table provides everything you could need to whip up a feast for two with a gas hob and a small fridge for storing delicious fresh produce. This includes any of the delicious range of meat and egg products you might like to buy from the owners who rear their livestock at the orchard. There's crockery and condiments provided with an on-stove espresso maker and kettle for that all important eye opener in the morning. There's a wonderful feeling of going back to basics without Nespresso machines and microwaves, but the basics are luxurious and thoughtfully chosen.
A wood-burner sits nestled in the corner surrounded by modern black tiling which pops stylishly against the rest of the wooden walls and flooring throughout. A basket of wood is provided so you can make the hut extra cosy and fall asleep to the delicious sound of crackling logs.
The bathroom is modern and very cool with a neat white tiled shower, a sink, a mirror, and a composting toilet. Everything is immaculate, uncluttered and functional.
The joy of staying in any shepherd's hut is, of course, the outside, and this hut does not disappoint. On its raised platform, it sits overlooking the pretty orchard. Trees cocoon the isolated spot from behind and two low wooden garden chairs sit side by side in front of the hut looking outwards at the view and the promise of lovely sunsets. There's a fire pit that also functions as a BBQ and the owners have provided bamboo skewers and other necessities to make outdoor dining a simple pleasure.
It would be criminal not to sit out there with a cold cider from the orchard's own apples and relax whilst the farm's sausages sizzle on the fire. When you're happy and think you can't possibly get any more relaxed, it's probably time to climb into the wood fired hot tub, open another bottle and wait for night to fall.
If you fancy exploring a little, the medieval village of Cattistock is a 15 minute walk from The Orchard and offers a local shop with a Post Office open until midday, a tearoom for scones and cream with a pot of tea and a traditional country pub where you can enjoy a Sunday roast.
The nearest train station is in Maiden Newton three miles away and there is no bus service so this really is the perfect place to go if you want proper down time. There are numerous walks and cycle routes to explore and you'll find details of these in your welcome pack alongside a lovely welcome hamper! The Jurrassic coast is only a 30 minute drive if you want to venture further afield.

Leave a reviewThe hut was beautiful inside and out. The location on the orchard is lovely, you can walk around and see the pigs and ducks. The owners had left a bottle of their cider, biscuits and some duck eggs in the hut for our arrival which was a nice touch. Even though there was another hut on site we did not hear them and the space was private. If you would like to get away and have a peaceful break I would certainly recommend.
