Tower over Amsterdam in one of Crane Hotel Faralda’s spectacular suites. Crane 13, originally constructed in 1951 as part of an industrial shipyard, was transformed over six years into luxurious accommodation. The result of this award-winning restoration project is three unique suites set at least 30 metres in the air. At the top, at around 50 metres, a spa pool offers panoramic views which are particularly spectacular at night when the city is illuminated.
The first suite you come to is the Free Spirit suite. The furnishings seamlessly combine contemporary design with parts taken from a sunken ocean cruiser. On the lower level, you’ll find the spacious living area and the luxurious bathroom complete with rain shower. The upper level features the sleeping area with a sumptuous queen-size Coco-Mat bed. A freestanding Villeroy & Boch bathtub is positioned to offer stunning views while you soak.
On the next level, in the place of the former machinery room, is the Secret Suite. This suite has a romantic atmosphere with blue and purple furnishings, satin Chivasso hangings and many silk pillows. The lower floor features the living area including a cosy space in the former room for the crane driver. The beautifully designed bathroom is also on this level with a Grohe rain shower and toilet. On the upper level, you’ll find a queen-sized bed and an original Marrakesh handmade copper bath. Floor to ceiling windows offer spectacular views.
Near the very top of the crane, you’ll find the Mystique suite with its sophisticated gold and black colour scheme. Specially designed wallpaper, a gold ceiling, beautiful satin hangings and unique paintings all add to the atmosphere of luxury. This suite is also split across two levels with the spacious living room and bathroom on the lower level and the sleeping area on the upper level. A Villeroy and Boch bath with views over the city completes the room.
Guests of the three suites have exclusive use of the spa pool located on the top deck. Heated to 40 degrees Celcius and offering stunning views over Amsterdam and the river IJ. If that’s not enough for you, there’s also the opportunity to bungee jump off a platform at the very to of the crane.
Crane Hotel Faralda is located in the NDSM neighbourhood which has been transformed in recent years from an industrial shipyard to a thriving creative community. Two days a month, the IJ-hallen hosts the biggest flea market in Europe and the enormous shipbuilding shed is now known as ‘Kunststad’ (Art City) and around four hundred artists and designers have their workshops and studios here. Many festivals, exhibitions and performances are hosted here throughout the year and it has become a vibrant cultural hotspot. You can also hop on the free ferry across the IJ and explore the fascinating city centre of Amsterdam. Here you can wander the pretty canals, sample the local food and drink, uncover some of the city’s rich history or dance until dawn in one of the many clubs. Amsterdam is a city that has something for everyone.
