With a cluster of apartments a short stroll from Vienna’s contemporary Quartier Belvedere, Urbanauts provides the kind of simple, modern living which makes a city break effortless. Vienna has the culture covered, of course – think museums, concert halls and incomparable palaces – but these days there’s plenty more going on in its cool cafés, bars and clubs which share the same stylish touch which makes Urbanauts so special.
In a handful of locations along the streets of Vienna’s 4th quarter, the Urbanauts apartments are conveniently close to Central Station – about 10 minutes’ walk away – and beautiful baroque Belvedere Palace is nearby too.
What were once shops, workshops and studios are now the stylish ground-floor living spaces known as ‘street lofts’, which have caught the attention of the New York Times and Wallpaper* to name just two. The concept is to provide the independence to experience the city as it is today. There’s no reception desk or fixed breakfast time here - just a healthy dose of freedom to do your thing.
Fashionistas will love the story behind the Tailoress loft, where haute couture dressmaker Liane Lerner once worked on her creations, while the Tobacconist was once, well, exactly that. The Gallerist was a hub for upcoming 1960s artists, while The Artist displayed the canvasses of a later generation in the 2000s, when the collective Dormice made it their creative retreat. Meanwhile, the Blacksmith can look back on 100 years of neighbourhood metalwork when this former forge became a landmark local shop.
As city residents themselves, the owners of Urbanauts want you to get out and discover the best of Vienna, so why not make use of their recommendation and take breakfast at classically cool Café Goldegg? It’s within a few minutes’ walk of all of the lofts. You won’t struggle to find alternatives, with more eateries similarly close. If you fancy heading further, you can jump on the Underground at nearby Taubstummengasse and see where it takes you.
Quartier Belvedere has developed into a contemporary centre around Central Station, and provides a contrast to the old-school charm Vienna is so famous for. Of course it’s touristy, but you don’t really want to miss the Imperial Palace, State Opera House and St. Stephen’s Cathedral, do you? Vienna’s reputation as a foodie paradise continues to grow too – head to Motto am Fluss for urban cool overlooking the Danube, or (if you really want to push the boat out) world-class Steirereck in Stadtpark – it’s up there with the best and, once again, you won’t have far to go.
If Vienna’s calling you, Urbanauts will give you the time and space to enjoy it to the full, and in style.
