If you’re planning an idyllic rural retreat for a large party, this gorgeous set of converted Somerset farm buildings may be just what you’re looking for. Set in 140 acres of arable land near the charming market town of Bridgwater, Clayhill is a complex made up of renovated cattle sheds and a milk parlour and granary. Boasting four double bedrooms and four twin bedrooms, the property sleeps 16, making it ideal for bigger groups looking to unplug and get away from it all.

Maintaining authentic features like its stone walls and exposed wooden beams, Clayhill’s luxury finishings and furnishings allow the property to marry a rural aesthetic with quality amenities to create a truly unique guest experience. Clayhill manages to achieve all of this while remaining remarkably eco-friendly, too; with electricity from onsite solar panels, water sourced from a local spring and heat generated by an onsite biomass boiler, you can be sure that your stay will have minimal impact on the local environment, too.

The centre of Clayhill is its palatial converted granary, which also houses its communal kitchen and dining area. Clayhill’s cooking facilities extend into the courtyard, with an onsite BBQ and pizza oven available to more gastronomically adventurous guests. Also worth noting is that all of Clayhill’s communal spaces have been made wheelchair-accessible, with a mobility lift installed and toilets fitted with mobility apparatus.

Each of the double and twin rooms in Clayhill has its own tea and coffee-making facilities, bathtub, hairdryer and private outdoor seating area. Additionally, a fully accessible bedroom with ensuite wet room is also available. The granary is also home to a lovely communal snug area, with a TV and DVD player, armchairs, fireplace, and boardgames to enjoy.

The nearby historic village of Bridgwater is a fantastic place to explore, too. Bridgwater’s iconic Corn Exchange, with its distinctive Tuscan pillars and portico, is a pristine example of the region’s unique architectural landmarks. The town also hosts the annual Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, part of which involves a parade of illuminated carts and is well worth checking out.

And, nature lovers will be excited to know that Clayhill overlooks the beautiful Quantock Hills, one of Somerset’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With diverse oak forests, woodlands, heathland and parklands to explore, the area is a fantastic place to sample some of Somerset’s finest walks and vistas.
