Set on the North West coast of the Isle of Lewis with sweeping views over the Atlantic Ocean, Brighid offers a peaceful escape for couples in spectacular surroundings. Located on traditional croft land with sheep grazing nearby and sea birds circling overhead, the house allows you to slow down the pace and enjoy nature. The design of the house takes inspiration from the traditional blackhouses that you’ll find on the island, as well as the colours of the Lewisian Gneiss rock on which it sits. With full height glazing in every room, you can enjoy the views that stretch 30 miles along the coast while snuggled up in front of the log burner, as you’re relaxing in the bath or from the comfort of your bed.
Step inside and you’ll find the house has been furnished in a contemporary, Scandinavian style that feels welcoming and relaxed while not distracting from the spectacular views. There’s an open-plan living, dining and kitchen space with access out onto the decking through big sliding glass doors. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you’ll need including a dishwasher and a coffee machine and you’ll find the dining table set in front of one of those full height windows. After dinner, get a fire going in the log burner and put your feet up as you watch night drawing in over the Atlantic ocean.
The bedroom features a luxurious king size bed with an Emma mattress promising a great night’s sleep. Remote-controlled black-out blinds mean that you can wake up in the morning and enjoy the view without stepping out of bed. In the bathroom, there’s a walk-in shower as well as a freestanding bath positioned so you can enjoy the view as you relax. Underfloor heating and hot water is provided by an energy efficient heat pump, keeping you toasty whatever the weather outside.
There’s plenty of exploring to do in the area and you’ll find the Isle of Lewis has a rich cultural heritage. Head to Stornoway, the largest town in the Outer Hebrides for a walk along the quay, lunch at one of the seafood restaurants and pick up some souvenirs at one of the shops selling Harris Tweed. While you’re there, visit Lews Castle, a 19th century castle that overlooks the harbour. The famous and mysterious Calanais Standing Stones that pre-date Stonehenge are just a 25-minute drive from the house. Head south to the Isle of Harris where you can visit the distillery producing gin and Scotch whisky. From Harris, you can hop on a boat trip out to St Kilda where you’ll find a stunning archipelago home to puffins amongst a wide array of other wildlife and with the chance to spot dolphins and minke whales on the way.
