Enjoy views of the Cairngorms from the luxury of the hot tub at one of these two beautifully refurbished cottages.
From the Glens to deserted beaches, Balbinney is the perfect destination for those wanting to experience the magnificent beauty of Scotland.
Stylish, welcoming and full of luxurious creature comforts, these two twin cottages - once home to cattlemen and shepherds - have been expertly renovated with comfort and relaxation at the heart of the design.
Built from sustainable recycled stone, fitted with corrugated tin roofs and clad with Scots larch, these handsome homesteads will have you feeling right at home from the moment you step onto the attractive wooden deck, with its bench and pretty pot plants.
Both cottages have bright, airy interiors consisting of an open plan living and dining area, with modern and stylish furnishings, wooden floors and neutral walls. Huge bifold doors flood the living room with light and let in the spectacular views out across the river South Esk to the Angus Glens and beyond. If the weather's kind you can push the doors wide and let the outside in, or on rainy days snuggle up beside the wood burner and watch the rain through the glass.
Tucked around the corner, in chatting distance of the living area, both cottages have smart, brand-new kitchens, fully equipped for whipping up a feast of delicious local produce - and there's even a wine cooler for keeping the Sancerre and the Chablis perfectly chilled.
Between the kitchen and living areas is a dining table, well-positioned to enjoy the views through the bi-folds as you eat. Or, on warmer evenings head, outside to the terrace and make the most of the stunning location. After dinner, pull the curtains together, stoke up the wood burner and settle in for a cosy night balancing a good book and a dram of whiskey.
The fresh Scottish air will soon have bedtime calling and the lovely bedrooms ensure deep, uninterrupted sleep. Both cottage sleep four in two double bedrooms - with the master bedroom of both properties configurable as either a queen-size or two twins. Wooden headboards constructed from the homesteads former floor, feature walls with charming pheasant wall paper and thick throws all add character to these lovely rooms.
Both cottages have a good-sized family bathroom, with a luxurious walk-in shower and plentiful hot water, toiletries and fluffy white towels.
You can also take a soak in the indulgent private outdoor hot tubs, located on the decking of both cottages and with glorious views on all sides, making a dream spot to unwind with a glass of something cold, after a day out walking the hills.
The cottages are part of the Balbinny Farm estate and you also have access to the indoor pool and jacuzzi as well as spa and beauty treatments, for that extra special touch of luxury.
The area is full of exciting adventures waiting to be experienced, from hiking the Glens, dolphin spotting on the Tay and brisk swims at the coast. Dundee is a short drive away and the V&A Museum is well worth a visit.
And guests keen to try the local produce won't be disappointed with the wealth of pubs and restaurants in the area. Try The Anchor at Johnhaven for local lobster and crab, or head to Sinclair's Kitchen for the famous Aberdeen Angus beef and game dishes. The local pub, the Drovers is a big hit with many and well-known for its rustic charm, log fires, good food and great wine list.

Leave a reviewBalbinny cottages really fit into what we wanted for our trip to Scotland. It has all the conveniences of a modern home, and is in the heart of rural Scotland that we wanted to explore. The owners provide everything we needed for our stay, and the hot tub and wood stove were nice added touches. The beauty and quiet of the area and the friendly and helpfulness of the owner made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. The surrounding area provides great choices for day trips. We enjoyed visiting a nearby castle, gardens, distilleries, North Sea coastal areas, and small town pubs and restaurants. We couldn’t have found a better spot for our vacation.
