This stunning shepherd's hut may look modestly unassuming from the outside, with its rustic, timber structure, but don’t be fooled, inside is a comfortable, stylish home from home with every comfort and amenity you could possibly want for a relaxing, secluded break. It is located on the working farm of Toghill House in an outstanding setting overlooking the Black Mountains to the west, Mendip Hills to the south and the Malvern Hills to the north. This really is a paradise for hikers, who will also find walking routes marked out throughout the farm's grounds. For the animal lovers, the farm is home to sheep, bantams, horses and a Shetland pony. Who could possibly resist?
The cleverly designed interior space features a day bed which opens out into a king-size bed for a truly cosy night’s sleep, with nature providing a peaceful soundtrack to your dreams. The crisp white bedding and neutral colourway add an understated, stylish touch and there is enough storage space beneath to stow your belongings.
Underfloor heating provides a toasty warmth and there is an additional quaint hobbit stove to ensure an ambience even Frodo himself would be at home in. Plenty of electric sockets, USB ports and lighting are available to satisfy those 21st century needs.
You will find a fully equipped modern kitchen with wooden worktops, electric oven, hob, kettle, toaster, Belfast sink and fridge/freezer. Compact, yet with everything you need to rustle up a full English before a day’s hiking. There is even a Roberts radio to sing along to while you cook. The en-suite bathroom contains a rain shower, sink, flushing Burlington loo and a heated towel rail and its pastel, wood panelled walls add a touch of Victorian elegance.
Outside you will find a private area complete with dining table, chairs, bench and a firepit, where you can toast marshmallows or relax with one of the books, magazines or games you will find provided in the hut for your enjoyment. There's even a hot tub, meaning you can sink in for a relaxing soak after a long day exploring your beautiful surroundings.
If you can resist the charms of the animals and the peaceful seclusion of Toghill House Farm, the village of Wick with its shops, post office, pub and restaurant is only a mile away. The picturesque village of Castle Combe is five minutes away and historic Lacock, with its museum and abbey, is only a 30-minute drive. The city of Bath is just a five-minute drive away and Gloucester and Cheltenham can be reached in less than an hour. Experience the full beauty of the Cotswolds right on your doorstep and 'Gertie' will welcome you home at the end of the day.
