The Barn is set in the grounds of a gothic mansion, Coates Castle, and is part of Castle Cottage Bed and Breakfast. Surrounded by pretty gardens and ancient woodlands, this is a tranquil location, perfect for a couple looking to get away from it all. Start the day enjoying a coffee amongst the vibrant plants in the conservatory before exploring the South Downs National Park. Finish up with a bath under a glass ceiling back at The Barn and a drink out on the balcony.
The Barn features a beautiful sitting room which feels incredibly spacious thanks to the high ceilings and large windows flooding the space with natural light. Choose one of the many books from the shelves and relax on one of the comfy sofas.
A gorgeous spiral staircase takes you up to the bedroom with a huge double bed and floor to ceiling windows with views of the surrounding woodland. There’s also a little balcony which is the perfect spot to sit out and enjoy your morning cup of coffee, or to just sit and listen to the sounds of the birds in the trees. The marble bathroom has a double-glazed glass ceiling, so you can lie back in the bath and relax while looking up at the trees and the sky.
Located in the heart of the South Downs National Park, The Barn is perfectly located for discovering some of the South’s most beautiful countryside. Whether you prefer to explore on foot or by bicycle, there are routes accessible from the doorstep. For anyone after something a little faster-paced, Goodwood is nearby with horse racing and motor racing on offer. If you’re feeling brave, you could even sign up for a flying lesson. If you hop in the car, you can be in Chichester in less than 30 minutes, or even in Brighton in less than an hour.

Leave a reviewWe loved our stay at the Barn - it was like being in a fairytale. The surrounds are leafy and gorgeous, and the beautifully decorated Barn was so wholesome. We loved listening to and watching the rain on the glass window panes in the roof, reading by the bookshelf, going for nearby walks, and cooking in the gorgeous kitchen. It was a great spot for exploring from too, going to the Seven Sisters, to Petworth and Arundel on day trips. Would definitely recommend!

A week in the spacious, so comfortable Barn was a haven of serenity. We loved the fascinating eclectic collections, the wealth of bookshelves to explore, and the freedom to enjoy Alison's extensive garden and the surrounding area. The recently fitted kitchen was a delight, and bedtime even more so, with such a luxuriously comfy bed. Many thanks to Alison and her four legged family!
