Just ten minutes on foot from the charming village of Corton Denham, The Strawberry Thief is a beautiful end of terrace house in a serene idyll. From the wisteria which hangs down from the roof to the dappled shade of the garden, everything about this charming house will leave you feeling relaxed and at ease with nature.
The Strawberry Thief is characterised by a traditional, farmhouse- style aesthetic, with contemporary twists for comfort. From the stained hardwood flooring throughout to the high-end amenities found in the classic, graceful kitchen, everything about this cottage has been carefully selected by the owners to create a pleasing sense of warmth and purpose.
The furniture and art have been collected over time from local shops and galleries, and the property abounds with a strong sense that care has been taken to design, maintain, and furnish it. In the garden, where the patient and lucky will see woodpeckers, finches, and thrushes, enjoy an al fresco meal at the barbecue, before the sun sets and the stars emerge, clear and bright in the Westcountry sky.
In the living room, broad floorboards and Quaker style furniture instil a sense of Hygge for families, friends and couples as they gather round the wood-burning stove, while a Crossley record player and Freeview enabled television provide all of the entertainment you could want. Next door, no expense has been spared in equipping a kitchen which even the most ambitious chef will be impressed by; a SMEG oven and range sit alongside a Bluetooth speaker, Nespresso coffee maker, and ample surface space for preparation. Upstairs, two double bedrooms and a single have been decorated with the distinctive understated taste which make this cottage such a delight to visit. With clean, sharp lines and high-polish wooden floors, you’re guaranteed to start each day with a sense of calm and joy.
Should you feel like exploring the local area, the closest pub is just a short walk away, through two fields. The amenities of Corton Denham are right on your doorstep, and Sherborne Castle is just down the road. For local settlements with an emphasis on art, independent businesses and seriously good food, check out Frome, Sherborne and Bruton. Your local pub is The Queen’s Arms, where the cottage’s owners swear by the pork pies, or head to Roth Bar & Grill if you make it to Bruton. Whatever the weather, The Monarch’s Way is an award winning hike, and starts right The Strawberry Thief.

Leave a reviewThe strawberry thief provided an absolute idyllic, peaceful and relaxing escape for our family of 5. There was nothing negative to report. Our stay felt as if we were staying at a close friend or family’s home. The cottage was well equipped with kitchen essentials, a record player, plenty of wood for the fire, and blankets for the sofa. My wife took full advantage of the lovely bath, and the kids enjoyed running around in the ample garden space. The surroundings were stunning and quiet as one would hope for in the Dorset countryside. We thoroughly enjoyed our family time away; it allowed us to rest, watch films, play board games and listen to music. We will be back! Thank you for making your house a home away from home.

We loved the cottage with its beautifully designed interiors, and it was cosy and comfortable for a winter break (the shower in particular is to die for!). The surrounding countryside is lovely and there were many nearby options for walks and other activities. We had a wonderful time and were very reluctant to go home!

We had a wonderful stay at the Strawberry Thief. It’s extremely stylish and very well equipped and manages to be both spacious and cosy. Every effort was made by the owners to help us enjoy our stay. It’s also well located, very peaceful and quiet, and a walk away from a terrific village pub. We can’t wait to return.
