The Royal Oak offers couples, friends and families a wonderful stay in a beautiful old pub in rural Somerset in the middle of Exmoor National Park. With 10 rooms on offer, you can enjoy a cosy night in a characterful space with great access to a truly historic, 12th century farmhouse that is now a thriving pub.
The Royal Oak offers fabulous home cooked food five evenings a week as well as a charming bar where you can settle in for a drink by the crackling fire. And after a few drinks in the cosy pub, you can make your way to your delightful bedroom for a fantastic night’s sleep.
The pub has 10 ensuite bedrooms, which offer a variety of super-king, king and twin beds. In four of the rooms the owners can add a fold-out bed and cots are also available for guests travelling with infants. The rooms are bursting with rural charm thanks to wonky walls, exposed wooden beams and ornate furnishings. Four poster beds and lovely ensuites add an element of luxury to your stay and all of the rooms are designed with their own individual character.
In order to ensure you get the best night’s sleep possible, the owners only use the finest Alpaca duvets and pillows made with the highest grade Egyptian cotton.
Dogs are also allowed to stay in all but two of the rooms, so you can bring your canine companion with you for your trip (for a small extra charge).
Guests staying at the Royal Oak are encouraged to eat down in the pub, where they have amazing menus that change with the seasons using the best locally sourced ingredients.
If you wish to venture out and explore during your stay, you’re ideally placed to visit all that Exmoor National Park has to offer. This is a glorious swathe of moorland that offers epic walks and beautiful scenery, so be sure to bring your walking boots and set out on foot.
History lovers will want to visit Dunster Castle, a former motte and bailey castle that sits proudly on top of the hill overlooking the picturesque village of Dunster. And if you fancy heading to the seaside, Porlock Weir is a small settlement with a harbour that dates back over 1,000 years with some lovely places to eat and drink.
And if you’re after a rugged coastal walk, be sure to head to the Valley of the Rocks. This is a stunning dry valley located under a mile from Lynton. This walk takes you across stunning sea cliffs and the valley runs parallel to the sea offering great views of the water.
