Set in the pretty village of Llangunllo, The Old Smithy is an attractive, stone-built, two-bedroom cottage that promises a welcoming and homely ambiance. With views of the rolling hills of Radnorshire, the location is perfect for walkers of all abilities and you can find lovely walks right from the front door, including the impressive Glyndwr’s Way.
Accessed from the roadside, you’ll find the games room on the lower ground floor. The table tennis table and dart board will provide hours of fun for those wetter days when you don’t want to brave the weather.
A cosy and comfortable kitchen and dining area is well equipped with an electric oven, electric hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. A welcome pack is provided to get you started and the sociable country kitchen table is the perfect spot for a fortifying breakfast or a relaxing evening meal at the end of the day.
You’ll also find a modern, bright shower room on this floor complete with a walk-in shower, heated towel rail and fluffy towels for added luxury.
Upstairs, a stylish lounge offers a relaxing place to get together for an after-dinner drink. Curl up on the leather sofa or comfy chairs in front of the blazing wood-burning stove to watch the smart TV or just catch up. This is the ideal place to get comfy with a good book as you listen to the logs crackle on the fire.
Both bedrooms are light, airy and spacious and provide plenty of storage, smart TVs and a welcoming retreat after a day of exploring. One features a king size bed while the other has a zip and link super-king size bed.
Outside, you’ll find an enclosed lawned garden with a patio and comfortable garden furniture where you can enjoy a drink or meal in the fresh Welsh air. If you get chilly, hop in the large hot tub and luxuriate in the bubbles.
Within the village of Llangunllo, there is a welcoming, traditional local pub serving a good selection of beer and ale and other pubs serving food are found in the surrounding villages, no more than 15 minutes away. Local activities include the well-recognised Griffin Lloyd clay shooting ground and Phil Price Rally School. Llangunllo is only six miles from the market town of Knighton, best known for Offa’s Dyke and nine miles from Presteigne. There are many attractions including The Judges Lodgings, Spaceguard Centre, Small Breeds Farm, Elan Valley Reservoir, Red Kite Feeding Station and Powis Castle. The market towns of Hereford, Ludlow and Hay on Wye are all between 45 and 60 minutes away and offer a variety of activities.

Leave a reviewWe just got back from our stay at the old smithy..and what a delight it has been. There was a minor hiccup when trying to get into the property which delayed us entering at the time we should have, the owners could not have been more apologetic if they tried, and on our last day even came with a card and a voucher to use in tesco as an apology, which was very kind of them. The cottage is beautiful, extremely well equipped and clean with the most amazing views! The hot tub and games room were the highlight of our stay, and if your lucky enough to have a clear sky the stars at night are breathtaking! The little pub next door was like stepping back in time but the owner made us extremely welcome and came to chat to us several times. The cottage is very remote, the nearest shop is a 15 minute drive away, which didn’t bother us…we also visited the small breed petting farm, a trip to Ludlow is a must…the town was beautiful!! We also visited Elan valley…Knighton town was 15 minutes away and we would recommend the horse & jockey pub! Jayne,John & Tom (the owners of the cottage) are fabulous hosts and I would highly recommend a visit here…only bad side for us was we only booked 5 days…we were sad to leave.
