The South Hams is one of the prettiest stretches of coastline in England with its charming villages, estuaries and inlets making it a lovely spot to discover, explore and relax. Little coves give way to large stretches of beach, fringed with green cliffs and covered in lush green foliage which provide a home to many much-loved species.
The Cricket Inn at Beesands enjoys an enviable location, beach side, on a stretch of sand which runs down to the blue sea. Tables and benches sit outside for visitors to make the most of this lovely spot. Take a seat and enjoy the views while tucking into some tasty seafood from the pub's extensive menu.
A nautical theme runs throughout the pub and into the bedrooms, tongue and groove panels mimic a boat's hull, rowing oars are poised on the walls and sea motifs abound. Of course, guests are never too far away from the ocean and can pull open curtains to let in the morning sunlight and take in the views of the sea which is, quite literally, a stone's throw from the accommodation.
There are seven rooms of various sizes, from a cute double to the family suite and have all been named after cricketers and cricket venues. The Truman, and the identical Botham Suite, sleeps two in stylish king sized four-poster beds with views stretching out across the sea towards the horizon. The Oval is also a king size double with a lovely bay window and handy seat - perfect for relaxing with a morning coffee. Trentbridge is another king size double and Headingly and Old Trafford sleep three in a double and a single. Lords, the largest suite, hosts four guests in two single beds and a large double. The room is divided by internal sliding doors offering extra privacy.
All the bedrooms have modern en suite bathrooms, which have walk in showers, and complimentary toiletries. Generous breakfasts are served downstairs in the bar area and will set you up for your day. Guests are offered fresh fruit, pastries and yoghurts, as well as a cooked breakfast option with locally laid eggs, bread from the bakery at nearby Frogmore and locally produced award-winning sausages.
The location makes this the ideal holiday base. Take a refreshing dip in the sea to start your day, after a hearty breakfast visit Start Point Lighthouse, do some picnic shopping in nearby Dartmouth and, after lunch, hire a boat for the afternoon. Then, back to Beesands in time for a sundowner on the beach before heading back to The Cricket Inn for dinner and bed.
