This beautiful former railway station was originally built in the 1890s and was lovingly renovated for the first time in 1984 transforming it into a pair of wonderful properties in the rolling Herefordshire countryside. The two properties are called The Station Building, which sleeps four, and The Parcel Office, which is a self-contained studio for two.
Up first is The Station Building, which offers a wonderfully unique stay with an amazing outdoor area that sits beneath the canopy on the station platform. Get comfy at the outdoor dining table and enjoy your lunch with a view, or relax on the cushioned bench with a good book as you gaze out over the tracks.
Inside, The Station Building has a homely and cosy lounge area with tall sash windows and double doors that open up onto the platform. Fire up the wood-burning stove and get comfy on the Ercol chairs as you catch up with loved ones or enjoy a movie on the TV - there is a selection of DVDs for you to peruse.
The kitchen - formerly the booking office - is fully fitted and has everything you need to whip up delicious meals during your stay. You can then dine outside on the platform or inside at the period Ducal table that seats up to six when extended.
When night falls, the two bedrooms are quaint and cosy. One was formerly the Ladies’ Waiting Room and features a double bed and a window that perfectly frames the rolling hills outside. The second bedroom is the Porter’s Room, which features an adult sized bunk bed. There’s also a charming, Victorian-style bathroom with a bath and shower.
Up next is the Parcel Office. This studio apartment offers unspoiled views of the rolling hills that stretch out away from the station. Two sliding doors - one glazed and one solid wood - offer direct access from the platform while ensuring privacy.
Inside, the Parcel Office is a self-contained space with a comfy sofa sitting at the foot of the double bed. Settle in for an evening in front of the fire after a day out exploring the surrounding scenery. The kitchen is compact yet well-equipped, offering budding chefs all they need to whip up delicious meals.
The Parcel Office works nicely as a separate holiday retreat for two or as an annexe to the Station Building for larger families or groups of friends visiting the station.
One of the highlights of The Parcel Office is the fabulous home-cinema. Here you’ll find a giant screen with a DVD/Blu-ray player and a speaker system as well as black-out blinds. This is the perfect place to enjoy exceptional movie nights or box set marathons.
Foodies will love exploring the best of Herefordshire’s local produce, and Rowden Mill Station is the perfect base for a delicious adventure. Set off on a cider and perry trail, sampling the region’s finest craft drinks or browse the fantastic local food scene in nearby Bromyard. Pick up fresh-baked treats from Laming’s Bakery or Loafers Patisserie, stock up on quality meats from Gladwin’s or Legges of Bromyard and grab the freshest fruit and veg from Gilbert’s - all just a short trip away.
Rowden Mill Station is also a perfect base for outdoor adventures. Explore canoeing, wild swimming and horse riding or enjoy family fun at Shortwood Farm Park and Eastnor Pottery.
