Grand Victorian house overlooking the beach in Northumberland’s pretty coastal village of Alnmouth, a peaceful seaside escape.
Perched above the beach in the charming coastal village of Alnmouth in Northumberland, Sandy Shores is part of a grand Victorian house with plenty of history. It was the first house built on the beachfront by the Duke of Prudhoe and you’ll find it still has plenty of its original character. There are spectacular views over the beach and the mouth of the Aln estuary from each of its three floors and the wonderful traditional iron balcony. Spend your days at one of Northumberland’s big sandy beaches or exploring the bustling harbour towns and villages dotted along the coast. Alnmouth is also home to England’s oldest golf course so any keen golfers will want to bring the clubs along. Make sure you’re back at the villa in time to enjoy the sunset over the dunes from that beautiful balcony.
Step inside and you’ll find yourself in a hallway with plenty of room for walking boots, coats, beach kit and some golf clubs. Head up the grand staircase to the first floor where you’ll find the spacious living room. This is the perfect spot to gather after dinner and watch a film or get a board game going with a fire crackling away in the background. The dining room is next door with access out onto the balcony with views over the water and the boats moored along the waterfront. There’s a table and chairs out here, making it a lovely spot to enjoy a quiet coffee in the morning.
The house comfortably sleeps up to eight guests in four bedrooms. You’ll find the main bedroom on the first floor with a choice of a super-king size bed or two singles. This is a lovely room with the original Victorian fireplace and an ensuite with complimentary Noble Isle toiletries waiting for you. Another impressive staircase takes you up to the second floor where you’ll find the other three bedrooms. The second bedroom has a king size bed, another beautiful Victorian fireplace and spectacular views over the beach. There are two other double rooms, both with lovely views and a family bathroom with a luxurious freestanding bath and a separate rainfall shower.
The house is just a short stroll from the heart of Alnmouth village where you’ll find everything you need. Wander through the pretty streets, visiting the quirky shops and art gallery along the way. You’ll have four pubs to choose from, as well as a great deli and some cafes and restaurants. Alnmouth beach is right on your doorstep and there’s also the five mile long Warkworth beach nearby. The village of Warkworth is also worth a visit with its medieval castle and several more pubs.
