Beautifully restored 18th Century Mill in the Cairngorms National Park, sleeping fourteen guests in style with a hot tub and sauna.
Among the rolling hills and placid lochs of the Cairngorms National Park, Old Mill on the Spey is a stunning former mill, dating back to the 18th Century. It has recently been converted into a gorgeous 14 person self-catering cottage. A few minutes walk from the quaint and charming village of Boat of Garten, Old Mill on the Spey represents a unique accommodation option for large parties, right on the banks of a beautiful and historically significant river.
Arranged over three storeys, Old Mill on the Spey benefits from an aesthetic combining ski-lodge chic and authentic rural Scottish style, using large windows and high ceilings to create an airy feel. In the main living space, oak floors create a touch of timeless class, while the focal point is a wood burning stove. A 42’’ SKY enabled television provides entertainment, and you’ll find an integrated bar in the kitchen, which has everything you’ll need to prepare three meals a day for fourteen hungry ramblers and holidaymakers. You’ll have two full size ovens, as well as a microwave, hob, and Belfast sink, and there are even booze coolers. Dine around the substantial table in the conservatory as you watch the waters of the river, and gaze out over the farmland beyond it.
Old Mill on the Spey has five bedrooms, four of which come with en-suite bathrooms. The master bedroom is truly spectacular, with slate flooring, picture window showing the mill’s workings, and a spacious living area with comfortable furniture. Versatility is built into the design of the bedrooms, which can accommodate a number of children and/or adults in various configurations.
Outside, a double-level decking is the perfect place to observe the waters of the Spey run past. One of the highlights is the eight person hot-tub up on the decking, which is the perfect way to relax after a long day of hiking and exploring. Alternatively there’s a six-person barrel sauna, unusual in a self-catering property in the area.
Of Scotland’s national parks, the Cairngorms is considered one of the most striking for its rustic beauty and dramatic landscape. Overhead, clear skies offer bright starry nights, and the park itself is home to deer, rabbits, squirrels and a number of unusual birds. This is a hiker’s paradise, with well-signposted trails running through the immediate vicinity, taking both experienced walkers and enthusiastic first-timers all over the highlands. You’re perfectly located to take advantage of Scotland’s outdoors capital, Aviemore, and its abundant sporting and leisure activities. Even closer to home, accessible via a few minutes’ walk, is Boat of Garten, a tranquil highlands village with golf course, steam railway, café and several eateries and bars.
