Merrieweathers is a stunning country estate situated on the border of Sussex and Kent in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The unique surroundings make Merrieweathers perfect for any type of trip, from big gatherings of up to 18 people to a romantic weekend escape.
Accommodation is spread across The Stables and The Hayloft. The Stables features a grand Great Hall which is the perfect place for entertaining. This impressive 50-foot long space has beautiful oak beams, chestnut floors, chandeliers and french doors opening out onto the courtyards. There’s also a sitting room with comfy sofas gathered around a fireplace and a fully-equipped kitchen with a two-oven AGA.
There are four suites in The Stables, each named after a flower and each with its own personality. For example, in the Orchid Suite on the ground floor, you’ll find a relaxing Japanese style bedroom with a jacuzzi in the ensuite bathroom. On the first floor, you’ll find the luxurious French Rose Suite with elegant details, such as a chandelier and an antique washstand in the ensuite with double basins.
The Hayloft is located directly opposite The Stables and is bright and spacious with a large, open-plan living and dining room and two ensuite bedrooms on the ground floor. There are also two mezzanine sleeping areas which are linked by a bridge spanning the living room. This beautiful feature was built using chestnut wood from the estate.
Less than 100 yards from the accommodation, you’ll find Merrieweather’s private pub, The Cock and Bull. This is a replica of a traditional English pub where you can pull yourself a pint from the pumps behind the bar or prepare a gin and tonic using the in-house optics. There are also plenty of games, such as pool and darts and even a cinema screen and log burner. On sunny days, head outside to the outdoor kitchen, complete with sink, granite work surfaces and a charcoal barbecue. If you’re visiting between April and October, the heated outdoor swimming pool is reserved for guests staying in The Stables and The Hayloft.
Set in 50 acres of beautiful gardens and fields and surrounded by lakes and woodland, there’s plenty to do without leaving the estate. Explore the kitchen garden and collect some eggs from the chicken coop for breakfast. Or wander down to the lake for a picnic and have a go at fishing. There are also miles of public footpaths that can be accessed directly from The Stables and The Hayloft. If you want to explore a little further, the idyllic village of Mayfield or the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells are both within easy reach.
