Humble Bee is a striking and unique structure that has been featured on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces on Channel 4. It would be a wonderful choice for couples seeking a novel place to relax in splendid surroundings close to nature.

The interior feels a bit like an epic tree house with its winding staircase and wood and metal structure. In winter you can hide away in the hive and get very cosy – there are a number of thick furs draped everywhere, and the dark wood and black painted accents make it a glorious cocoon. And in the summer you'll find various doorways which fold back to allow the light to stream in and the woodland to become a part of your landscape. It really is an ingenious building and a joy to explore.

There's a fully equipped kitchen with lots of character and a table where you can sit and eat home cooked meals together in the peace and quiet. Depending on what time you arrive you'll find a welcome bottle of wine or a home made cream tea to greet you.

The decor is heavily influenced by the bee theme and you’ll love the honeycomb inspired feature wall. The electric heater’s orange glow flickering and the rich dark wood and reclaimed crates creates a warm and cosy glow.

Up the stairs a decadent day bed awaits where you can lounge around and read or get cosy together and enjoy a glass of wine. Further up on the top floor is the grand king size bed with thick wood framing, heaps of cushions and throws and the feeling of being suspended and hidden away from the world. Once you're tucked up and comfy you won't want to leave this wonderful hideaway. As you doze off you can watch the sky through the circular bee hive window.

After a blissful night's rest you have a novel selection of bathroom amenities to choose from. If coffee is the main driving force you can just stop off at the bathroom on the middle floor where you'll find a toilet and sink. If you need a proper blast of hot water you'll find a shower room on the ground floor, and if you need to waken in absolute luxury you can head outside and sink into the stunning tub surrounded by natural rock with heated bath walls. Maybe take that first coffee there and enjoy the view.

The rest of the day could be spent luxuriating in the privacy of your home, or enjoying a soak in the cedar hot tub under the old oak tree which is shared with a couple of neighbours.

If you can bring yourself to leave your idyllic hive you'll be very close to the wilderness of Dartmoor, a wonderful place to explore and blow away the cobwebs whatever the weather. If you fancy breakfast out then take the short walk, or borrow bikes from the nearby youth hostel, and cycle to the Railway Cafe. Okehampton is a short and pleasant walk away and you'll find plenty of pubs, restaurants, independent shops and a great weekly farmers' market where you can stock up on goodies.

Enjoy some great food and pint by the fire at the 15th century Duke of York or for a bit of busy glamour head to The Dartmoor Inn and squeeze yourself into the bar. For beach days you can hop on a bus to Bude or if it's wild swimming you want the Old Meldon Quarry is a beautiful spot! And if at the end of it all you just want to chill at the hive you can book a massage therapist to come to you!

We stayed at Humble Bee and also the Bird box across the August BH weekend. We had such an amazing time. Yvette and Ronald made us feel so welcome from the minute we arrived. The 3 properties on this land feel so isolated and private yet you retain the close proximity to local amenities and transport links (we got the train to this property which made the weekend even more of an adventure). The location is perfect for walking on the moors and other great places. We were given so much information prior to our stay which helped us pack so much in across the weekend. Easily accessible to the local shops and you can even get delivery pizza!! Thanks for such a great time.

Very quirky, unique place. Lovely and relaxing, the outdoor bathtub was amazing. I would highly recommend this place.

Such an incredible place to stay. Cosy, relaxing, peaceful, surrounded by nature and not far from the town centre If needed. My husband and I enjoyed a weekend away in this quirky Beehive and it did not disappoint. Yvette was very welcoming, friendly and helpful with everything. We were given great directions and Information about the area. We could not of asked for more. We will definitely go back and stay there again. I highly recommend the humble bee if you are looking for a break away.
