The Railway Carriage is a luxury converted railway carriage in Helmsley that sleeps four, as well as one infant. It retains many of its original features, but has also been refurbished by craftsmen local to the area to transform it into bona fide self-catered holiday accommodation. This is the perfect property for history enthusiasts in particular - the carriage ran for a number of years between York and Scarborough and allows guests to truly immerse themselves in the atmosphere and technology of a completely different era!

Conveniently located right in the centre of Helmsley, you'll find that local shops and amenities are right on your doorstep. Guests can access the property via a private entrance, so, despite its prime location, the Railway Carriage feels fairly secluded, truly offering the best of both worlds. You'll also have your own garden space, complete with a swinging chair - what better place to enjoy a nice glass of wine on a balmy summer's evening?

The property's kitchen is fully-equipped, with everything you'd need to whip up delicious meals throughout your stay. It features a microwave and grill combination, electric hob, fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle, cutlery and crockery. This space joins onto the main living area, which, in addition to its cosy sofa, dining table and pop-up TV, is also home to the master bed! With a luxurious memory foam mattress and quality bedding, you're practically guaranteed a fantastic night's sleep.

Just down the corridor is the bedroom, which boasts a bunk bed for flexible sleeping arrangements. This part of the carriage is also home to additional storage space and clothes hangers, so guests can really make themselves at home during their stay. And, the property's wetroom is complete with shower and toilet facilities, as well as spare towels, toiletries, shampoos and soap. Under-sink storage is also available.

While small, Helmsley is far from lacking in things to do, being home to an incredible selection of restaurants, cafes and pubs. The town's Walled Garden is especially beautiful in the warmer weather, and Helmsley is also home to the UK's National Centre for Birds of Prey. Here, you can enjoy watching the centre's incredible hawks and eagle owls, as well as go for a walk through some of the generous woodlands that form part of the property.

Helmsley is also fantastic for history buffs. No visit to the town is complete without stopping by Helmsley Castle, a ruined medieval site with plenty of atmosphere and charm. The remains of the Cistercian Rievaulx Abbey are well worth checking out, too - not only is its architecture a sight to behold, but it's also located within the North York Moors, providing the perfect opportunity to sample some gorgeous nature during your visit, too.
