Gwynne House, a beautiful 200 year old property, has been newly decorated to a high standard, and with six bedrooms over four floors would make an ideal holiday haven for a large family holiday or reunion. This was also the house that inspired George Eliot to write her first novel, so the creatively inclined amongst you might like to come and soak up the atmosphere in preparation for your own masterpiece!
On entering Gwynne House you'll find high ceilings and original wooden floors maintaining its historic charm. There's a snug, where you can leave your coats and shoes, which leads in to large and lovely royal blue family bathroom with tiled walls and floor, a gorgeous roll top bath and walk in rainfall shower. To the right of the hallway is a large an airy dining room with dark pannelled walls and plush luxurious seating where you can enjoy candlelit suppers with views of the Harbour and North Beach.
At the end of the hallway is the kitchen, which is fully equipped with modern amenities including a double oven, American fridge freezer and a dishwasher, whilst still maintaining a 19th century charm in the décor. There's also a breakfast bar where you can enjoy the first coffee of the day.
The stairwell has a roof window making it light and airy as you travel up to the first floor which is home to the George Eliot Room, a lovely cosy bedroom with a double bed, its own WC and a large flat screen smart TV.
Continue on up to the second floor where you'll find a rather lovely classically decorated lounge. A place to gather for a glass of champagne before dinner or laze around on the velvet sofas watching films on the 65” flat screen with a cup of tea and slice of cake. As with all the rooms, the views are a real treat. The owners have kindly provided binoculars so you can watch the boats coming into harbour or spot the local wildlife.
Across the landing is the second bedroom, the 'John Gwynne Suite'. This room boasts a super-king bed and its own ensuite with shower. As with the other rooms it has crisp linens and soft plush furnishings, promising an excellent night's sleep with the aid of the sea air. Up to the third floor you have the 'Caldey' and 'St Catherine' suites offering twin and double beds respectively, both with ensuites.
Then it's up to the eaves and two more twin bedrooms. Both have low lying beds and share a WC, and they both have large flat screen TVs, a great place to throw the kids together!
You'll be just a stone's throw from the beach, and what a beach it is! Pembrokeshire has over 50 beaches with Tenby being home to South Beach, North Beach, Castle Beach and the famous Harbour Beach which has been voted the best in Europe, and it's right on the doorstep!
Tenby is also a multi-award-winning coastal market town and anyone staying there should consider taking a boat trip to the very pretty Caldey Island. It's home to a group of Cistercian Monks who produce and sell a variety of great cheeses, chocolates and perfume made from the surrounding lavender. A wonderful reminder of your stay.
You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs and if you're looking for somewhere to have a pint and a good meal in really cosy surroundings you might like to try The Coach & Horses on Upper Frog Street. The Cove on High Street is also great for food.
