In a quiet street just five minutes away from the attractions of Palma, is the Container House. As the name suggests the house is made from shipping container modules, which makes this a really unusual place to stay. Don’t be fooled by the idea that a home made from container modules will be rustic, or that you’ll be in anyway slumming it; the container house is extremely modern, and impeccably designed. You can expect bright spacious rooms that really emphasise the containers’ clean lines, and striking colours that break up and add interest to the space.
The kitchen is really striking; glossy black cabinets and appliances contrast with the white walls to create a smart, sophisticated environment. The living room is calm in shades of olive and green and lends itself to relaxing after a day wandering the streets of Palma. A striking spiral staircase leads up to the bedroom, which is refreshing in white and natural wood, and has a full length and breadth window, through which the colourful streets of Palma can be viewed.
The outside space is just as clever as inside; make the most of the sunshine on the grass roof, or have a barbeque on the shady terrace. Those of you who like a private pool on their holiday won’t be disappointed, as the owners have even made room for a small, blue tiled pool on the terrace!
There’s a great deal to see on your doorstep. No holiday in Palma is complete without a visit to the La Seu Cathedral. The cathedral is gothic in style and sits on a hilltop overlooking the city. Take a stroll down Calle Sant Miquel, where you will find plenty of boutiques to treat yourself in, quaint local cafes and sophisticated restaurants, mingled in with chapels and historic buildings with pretty courtyards. The Plaza Mayor de Palma is the city’s main square and is the perfect place to have a bite to eat, or a a glass or two, as you watch the World go by. As you leave the square look out for interesting and historic architecture; The old town is quite literally home to the King of Spain; he stays in the medieval Palau de la Almudaina when he comes to Mallorca. The old town also has plenty of pretty boutiques and shops selling authentic Mallorcan produce.
