This fabulous off-grid cottage sits in an ancient wood in the heart of the Scottish Borders. With miles of stunning scenery stretching out in all directions, Birkenside Cottage makes a perfect base from which to explore your marvellous surroundings.
When you enter, you’ll love the rustic charm on display in all of the rooms, whilst the modern amenities and touches ensure you have a super-comfy stay. Relax with your loved ones in the tranquil garden, which is bordered by forest on three sides. While away your days chilling on the lawn or warming your toes in front of the firepit as the kids play on the outdoor play equipment.
Heading inside, the cottage has a fantastic open-plan living area that allows you to all remain connected during your stay. Sit back and relax with loved ones on the comfy sofas and light the wood-burning fire as you chat the afternoon away over a glass of wine. There’s also a smart TV here for movie nights or box set marathons. When it comes to meal prep, the kitchen is modern and nicely equipped with contemporary appliances, and there’s also a fab kitchen island with bar stools, so you can perch there with a drink as your nearest and dearest prepares dinner.
When dinner’s ready, serve it up on the dining table, or enjoy your meal alfresco on the peaceful deck whilst taking in your surroundings.
When night falls, the cottage has two double bedrooms, both of which have been lovingly designed and furnished to ensure you are all afforded a peaceful night’s sleep. The fab family bathroom is also equipped with a superb free-standing bathtub offering you the chance to enjoy a luxurious soak in peace before bed.
Birkenside Cottage is fully off-grid, with spring water filtered by UV, power from a battery and diesel generator, oil-fired central heating and a gas stove fuelled by Calor canisters.
This really is a true family home, and the garden is a wonderland for kids - climb the treehouse, zoom on the flying fox, sail the bathtub boat or play hide and seek in the woods. There’s a climbing frame, hammock, badminton, pétanque and more. If the weather turns, head indoors for board games, bowling, puzzles and plenty of fun for all ages.
