You’ll find these beautiful treehouses tucked away in the unspoilt countryside of mid-Wales with stunning views over the Dyfi Valley and the Cambrian mountains beyond. Nyth y Barcud and Ty Cainc have been designed and built on a family farm using eco-conscious and up-cycled materials. They’re off-grid, using solar and wind power and have wood burning stoves to snuggle up in front of in the evening. After a day biking or hiking through the Welsh countryside, your cosy treehouse will be the perfect spot to put your feet up and watch the sunset over the treetops.
Nyth y Barcud has been cleverly designed to allow level access to the cabin and deck on one side while being up in the trees on the other. Step inside and you’ll find a spacious interior, styled in a minimalist way that doesn’t distract from the view through floor-to-ceiling windows. You can soak up the views of the surrounding mountains and valleys from the comfort of the sofa and there’s even an area of glass floor so you can watch the stream flow past below.
There’s a well-equipped kitchenette with a gas hob and you can enjoy your meals at the table or out on the deck. The double bedroom is at the back of the cabin and there’s space for up to two children on the sofa bed in the living area. You’ll find a hot shower in the bathroom along with a basin and a loo.
Ty Cainc is set high amongst the branches of the trees with a small balcony that looks out through the tree canopy to the landscapes beyond. You can enjoy cocktails out on the balcony and watch the sunset before snuggling up on the sofa with a fire going in the wood-burning stove. This treehouse also has a contemporary, open-plan space that encompasses the kitchenette, dining area and living space. To one end of this space, you’ll find floor-to-ceiling windows with access out to the balcony.
There’s a separate double bedroom which also has its own staircase leading down to ground-level. The ensuite bathroom features a hot shower, basin and loo and there’s room for two children on the double sofa bed in the living room.
There’s plenty of exploring to do in this area of mid-Wales and with Snowdonia and the coastal paths nearby, you’ll want to pack your walking boots. Quiet trails along the cliff tops or up to the mountain offer spectacular views at all times of the year. Head down to Cardigan Bay for views all the way to Pembrokeshire on a clear day or tackle some of the peaks of Snowdonia if you fancy a challenge.
The area is also renowned for its fantastic mountain biking trails with routes that will take you straight from the farm to Dyfi Forest or Glyndwr’s Way. For a more leisurely way to spend an afternoon, head to Machynlleth, the nearest market town. This is where you’ll find some great pubs, cafes and independent shops as well as a weekly market where you can pick up some local treats.
