Located in a secluded spot on the Isle of Harris, Bays Blackhouse is unique self-catering accommodation that enjoys superb views over the Little Minch to the Isle of Skye. The building has a fascinating history and cleverly incorporates contemporary, luxury accommodation within the ruins of a historic blackhouse. You’ll still find the original fireplace and the walls of the blackhouse building visible from the glass frontage of the new building which has been designed to match up with the old windows and entrance door. The result is a unique building that blends in beautifully with the rugged landscape of the Isle of Harris, just a stone’s throw from the shoreline of Loch Stocinis.
Step inside and you’ll find a spacious, open-plan living and dining area with floor-to-ceiling windows letting in plenty of natural light. The beautiful stones of the original blackhouse building, visible just beyond the glass, help you feel connected with the history of the place and the landscape while offering an extra bit of privacy. Relax on the sofa with your feet up in front of a merrily crackling fire in the log burner after a long walk exploring the island. Or rustle up a delicious dinner in the fully equipped kitchen, that's complete with an oven, hob, fridge, freezer, microwave and a dishwasher so no one gets lumbered with the washing up. Enjoy meals on the quaint dining table for two whilst taking in the views outside.
The double bedroom features a sumptuous king-size bed with floor-to-ceiling windows so you can enjoy the stunning scenery as you sip your coffee in bed in the morning. There’s a shower room with a large walk-in shower and underfloor heating throughout the cottage to keep you cosy, whatever the weather outside.
There’s a handy storage shed where you can keep any outdoor gear, such as golf clubs, bikes or muddy boots. You'll also find a picnic table and a small barbecue, along with a supply of charcoal in the garden.
Bays Blackhouse is located in the heart of the Bays of Harris with the shores of Loch Stocinis just a short stroll away. This means there are plenty of opportunities for watersports right on your doorstep and, if you’re lucky, you might spot seals, otters or eagles while you’re out and about. The beautiful beaches of Horgabost, Seilebost and Luskentyre are all within a short drive from the cottage. Keen walkers will not want to miss The Coffin Road and The Scholars’ Path which are located close to the cottage, both famous walking routes which take you to some of the most scenic parts of the island.

Leave a reviewWe had an amazing time staying at Bays Blackhouse. The property is designed very well and it was in great condition when we arrived (very clean!). It has been meticulously looked after and the attention to detail is second to none. The location is beautiful and a great base to explore Harris (and Lewis). There are numerous beaches a short distance from the house and lovely roads to explore with lots of hidden gems. We couldn't recommend this place more. A holiday that will live long in the memory. A huge thank you to our amazing hosts.
