Discover this trio of charming tiny houses, each with its own unique personality and thoughtfully designed layout. Lovingly crafted with sustainability at heart, these eco-friendly retreats blend comfort with conscious living, so you can unwind knowing your stay treads lightly on the planet.
The bothies are nestled in the heart of MacDonald country, steeped in the storied history of the Jacobite Rising. Named in tribute to MacDonald of Clanranald, MacDonald of Keppoch and MacDonald of Glenaladale, each Bothy honours those who fought for Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745, keeping their legacy alive in this beautiful, historic landscape.
Each of these enchanting bothies is filled with handcrafted, cosy details that make for a relaxing, homely escape. Curl up by the wood-burning stove, or step outside to your very own 'sitooterie' – the perfect spot to enjoy the fresh air and your peaceful surroundings.
The calming wooden interiors offer a peaceful retreat, with comfy beds guaranteeing a lovely night’s sleep. Each bothy also features a quaint kitchenette that makes use of recycled kitchenalia, bamboo beakers and enamelware plates, mugs, and bowls. You also have a handful of electrical kitchen appliances that have been selected for their low energy ratings, simple design and durability.
When it comes to filling your days there is a selection of books for you to unwind with, as well as binoculars for spotting wildlife and individual fire pits that double as BBQs for a tasty outdoor feast. For the ultimate treat, enjoy a shared outdoor bathtub as you have a soak under the stars and let the world melt away.
As night falls, Clanranald offers a cosy retreat for two adults and one child or small adult, with a double bed and a charming ‘Bothy Platform’ – a little hideaway featuring an ex-Dutch army inflatable mat and a recycled sleeping bag from Vango, plus comfy pillows for a restful night. Next, Keppoch, located in the middle of the three bothies, comfortably sleeps up to four with two double beds. Like all of the bothies, it boasts a bathroom with a composting toilet, handbasin and a spacious Grohe shower for a relaxing rinse. At the top of the site, nestled in woodland, is Glenaladale. This peaceful retreat also sleeps up to four with two double beds, offering flexible sleeping arrangements for a restful stay.
Just a few minutes' walk or bike ride from the Bothies, you'll find plenty to explore. Admire the world-famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by Harry Potter. The Jacobite Steam Train runs from Spring to Autumn, over the Viaduct, on one of the world’s most scenic train journeys. Climb to the top of the Glenfinnan Monument, built in 1815, to enjoy magnificent views along Loch Shiel (Harry Potter's 'Black Lake'). Visit the historic Glenfinnan Station and Museum, and learn about the building of the Viaduct.
