This wonderfully unique and majestic property sits on the banks of Loch Long in the heart of the Highlands. Sleeping up to four lucky guests, the newly built home was designed to be a tranquil haven away from the hustle and bustle, and is ideally located for visiting the Isle of Skye, Glenelg, Applecross and other parts of Scotland’s west coast. It takes full advantage of its incredible surroundings and guests will be treated to awe-inspiring views across the sea loch and out to the hills. An t-Iolaire means eagle in Scottish Gaelic, and many eagles are regularly spotted soaring above the home.
Inside, the property has a clean and modern aesthetic. It has been lovingly decorated by the hosts and is full of quirky details, intriguing curiosities and bespoke local artwork. At its heart is the open plan living space, which has a high vaulted ceiling and skylights that fill the room with light in the day and allow stargazing at night. The lounge has a comfy sofa and armchairs to sink into after a day of exploring, and the space is kept warm and cosy by an electric fire (a more eco-friendly alternative to a conventional wood burning stove). You’ll also find a 43inch HDTV and a selection of books to keep you occupied on rainy days.
Next to the lounge is the dining table and fully equipped kitchen. You’ll have all the cooking essentials included, but the hosts recommend picking up fresh seafood from the local fish van and stocking up on more excellent produce from nearby Kyle. The first of the two bedrooms is on the ground floor, a super king or twin room with luxurious Voyage Maison furnishings and a sumptuous bed topped with premium White Company linen. There is also a spacious bathroom with a walk-in rainfall shower, heated towel rail and mirror.
Upstairs is a mezzanine seating area overlooking the main living space. This room is designed to make the most of the gorgeous vistas, with huge windows and binoculars for wildlife spotting (otters, eagles, herons and more can be seen from the house). The second bedroom is found here, a stylish king size room where you can enjoy the view from the comfort of the bed. This bedroom has an ensuite with a bath and drench shower head. An t-Iolaire also features a private patio area, a lovely spot to for a morning coffee or a wee dram in the evening.
The peaceful village of Dornie is just a short stroll away and home to the local hotel and pub. Also within walking distance is the popular tourist attraction of Eilean Donan Castle, and the proximity means you can visit at less busy times. The area is also renowned for outdoor activities, with opportunities for hiking, climbing, mountain biking, wild swimming, kayaking and more. Just ask the knowledgeable hosts for more info.
