Abbotsway Cottage is one of three beautiful holiday retreats on a private country estate in Orroland near Kircudbright (“Kir-Coo-Brie”) in the South West of Scotland. This lovely home from home is nestled in a secluded spot with only trees and wildlife to be seen for miles. It would be a wonderful escape for a couple wanting quality time together, or a small family of up to five with kids who like to run wild and explore.
This traditional stone cottage is at the end of a winding private drive and you'll feel wonderfully cut off from the busy world the moment you arrive.
The interior is spacious, light and welcoming with a traditional farmhouse kitchen where you can pop the kettle on and have a rummage through the welcome hamper from your hosts. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need to cook some lovely family meals and share them at the large six-seater dining table in the centre of the cosy kitchen.
After dinner you can relax in the homely living room on the plush sofa and armchairs, warmed by the cosy wood burner as you watch a movie. Or perhaps take a drink and settle at the table by the bay window to enjoy the stunning scenery.
For those who like a bit of competition you'll be delighted by the spacious games room where you'll have another wall-mounted flat screen TV to catch up on sports, a pool table and some table tennis to keep you and the kids entertained.
When it's time for bed you'll find three generously sized rooms split into two separate wings providing space and privacy for everyone. There's a king size, a single and a twin room, all with cosy bedding and Hypnos mattresses to ensure a good night's sleep.
There are two bathrooms to choose from, one with a bath and shower overhead, and another separate shower room where you can indulge in the complimentary toiletries and get ready for the day.
The gardens are fully enclosed with pretty flower beds and green lawns where children and dogs can run and play whilst you enjoy your first coffee of the day. Take a walk in the wild flower meadows outside of the property, wander through the ancient woodland, past the private loch, and on down to the shoreline where you can hunt for sea life in the rock pools, take a picnic and seek out one of the waterfalls.
There's plenty to do and see in the area and if you fancy feasting on some of the local fresh seafood the hosts recommend the Selkirk Arms and The Castle Restaurant. Dumfries & Galloway boasts many pubs and takeaways too, or you could just buy some local produce and enjoy a BBQ in the lovely private garden.
